It's primarily because in 2003 they won a few dead rubbers in a row against Australia.dinu23 said:bit surprised WI is up there in the top three
England would only have to win 4 of the probable 7 games with Australia, I can certainly see England doing it with their full strength side with Australia to bring the best out of them - it's not like one of those end of term series where England don't give a toss or when they're still speculating over a couple of places over their Test XI.age_master said:South Africa probably will next time they play. ENgland have the chance to but its unlikley due to the catching up.
If England win 4 out of 7 against Australia, I'll eat my hat.Scaly piscine said:England would only have to win 4 of the probable 7 games with Australia, I can certainly see England doing it with their full strength side with Australia to bring the best out of them - it's not like one of those end of term series where England don't give a toss or when they're still speculating over a couple of places over their Test XI.
You make that sound so easy.Scaly Piscine said:with Australia to bring the best out of them
Bell/Pieterson anyone? Jones/Anderson anyone? (I'll get shot down for saying that, but if Anderson were to play a few one dayers and do well, you'd be seeing him in the test team.)Scaly Piscine said:when they're still speculating over a couple of places over their Test XI.
Do you remember how comprehensively outplayed Australia were last time they played England? England aren't usually up for these trivial ODI series, but I think they'll have a point to prove against Australia and this (hopefully, barring injury) will be the first time Pietersen and Flintoff have batted together. I'm not sure who'll play at number 9 tho, but I'm hoping Strauss opens and England will have a top 7 without an obvious weakness for the first time (in ODIs) in years, maybe decades.FaaipDeOiad said:If England win 4 out of 7 against Australia, I'll eat my hat.
The only speculation there is from the media. With two Tests against Bangladesh, I don't see the situation changing as it's pretty unlikely for someone to do so spectacularly badly against them that they manage to get dropped. There might well be injuries, but until then there's no uncertainty as to the XI that will be play against Bangladesh and Australia in the Tests.vic_orthdox said:You make that sound so easy.

That is no excuse.age_master said:alot of those wins would have been dead rubbers too

Umm, that was one game. You will notice I never said "England will not win a game", I said they won't win 4 out of 7, which they won't, not in a million years, and if they do I'll be reaching for the knife and fork.Scaly piscine said:Do you remember how comprehensively outplayed Australia were last time they played England? Harmison has been good in ODIs, just not in SA and early on in his England career where he was rubbish in all forms of the game - he was very good in the CT, where he and Flintoff as bowlers were awesome and even compensated for Wharf & Gough until the final.FaaipDeOiad said:Umm, that was one game. England have two fantastically talented ODI players in Flintoff and Pietersen, and some able support in Trescothick, Strauss and so on. Their bowling is severely lacking, with Harmison and Hoggard having a poor time of it in ODIs, and rubbish players like Kabir Ali being brought in, who would get belted all around the park against Australia. Simon Jones might do okay in ODIs, that is yet to be seen, but feel free to tell me who you think is going to restrict Australia's scoring 4 times in 7 games, because frankly I can't see it, and with Vaughan and so on in the side I don't think England are capable of hitting 275+ scores very often against Australia either.

Amazing what lengths this one'll go to to make Durham and\or England players look good, isn't it?Scaly piscine said:Harmison has been good in ODIs, just not in SA and early on in his England career where he was rubbish in all forms of the game - he was very good in the CT, where he and Flintoff as bowlers were awesome and even compensated for Wharf & Gough until the final.
