What if Shane Bond never had those 3 stress fractures and miss out on more than 2 years of international cricket? I wonder what if bowling record would’ve looked by now…

He was quick! I thought he was the first NZ bowler with a chance to challenge Sir Richard as the best NZ bowler in history. I have not seen him bowl since coming back.

These sort of things fascinate me, although I know they really mean nothing. I was just wondering what others think?

What if DG Bradman had never been born, which batsman would be considered the best ever? Tendulkar

What if Australia would have scored those two extra runs, would Martyn still be in the Test side? Yes. He's unlucky in my opinion when you think Katich kept his place.

What if Gordon Greenidge had decided to play for England instead of the Windies, would England have lost the Ashes in 1982/83?He'd have helped, obviously.

What if Archie Mac had never joined this forum, would people be asking these silly Q? :D
I'd certainly never have thought of them.

Shane Bond mixes up speed nowadays…he bowls fast only when he wants. Not like before when he used to give his everything to every ball. I think he does that to protect his back…but yea he’s not as fast as he used to be but he has become more mature as a bowler. It’s so good to see him back again and I hope to see more of the injury-free, revamped Shane Bond.

Top thread.

Some more what ifs:

What if Pietersen had stuck on with South Africa?

What if Cronje had not died in a plane crash?

what if Warne caught Pietersen
what if Warne was 'banned for life' in cricket for his 'drug useage'
what if Australia didnt have McGrath

Gibbs had caught Steve Waugh in the 1999 world cup.

Would Australia have lost|?
Would Warne have retired?
Would Waugh have lost the captaincy considering also the ordinary tour of the West Indies before that?

England probably would have lost the test and the series therefore would have been drawn.

Australia's attack would have been a lot less potent but perhaps they might have found somewhat of a replacement in Mcgill

I dont think Australia would have been the dominant team they are now. They possibly would have still been the best but not by as much as they are now and i dont think they would have beaten India (especially away)

1 I think the 'stock' that is Tendulkar would have risen to new heights, I can't believe some people have blamed Sachin for this lost.

2 I think Ganguly has been good for India cricket. Dravid would have been captain, and India would not have done as well.

Agree with 1 & 3 don't know about 2 - Warne was dropped during the tour of the West Indies, was doubting himself after his injury, had been smashed in the tournament by every team he faced prior to that & a lot of Aussie fans & media were calling for him to be dropped. I think he has stated a few times he was very low & seriously considering retirement.

Yeah its stupid, but that's the way people think. He could have made 399 runs, with 9 wickets down and 2 runs to win required, he gets out and he'd be blamed for the loss

I also think if Ganguly hadn't been made captain in 99 (I think it was then, or was it 2000?)India wouldn't have done as well. He's done some foolish things in his time (mainly recent) but he's also done a lot of good for Indian cricket. I think now is the time for Dravid to take over as captain, 6 years ago would not have been ideal.

Yeah I remember Shane Warne having a tough time during that time…all cricketers go through their fair share of ups and downs…and he was going through one of his toughest times. But he is a world class player and I think he knew and everybody else knew that he was going to bounce back…so I didn’t give that one too much of a thought.

If the young WI pace bowlers of the late 90s had been allowed to share the new ball with one of Ambrose and Walsh...

1. Would the West Indies have a world class pace bowler at this time?
2. Would Dillon have been better equipped to lead the bowling attack than he ultimately was?
3. Would it have mattered in the grand scheme of things?

1 Yes I think they would, some of the pace men have just that PACE

2 Too much pressure for him to handle, a mental think I thought?

3 Yes it does, we need a strong WI team, the way they play their cricket is great for the game.

What if the England selectors had never gambled on selecting Michael Vaughan, Marcus Trescothick, Kevin Pietersen, Steve Harmison, Freddie Flintoff, Ashley Giles, Matthew Hoggard, Simon Jones, and Geraint Jones for international duty? None of these had particularly outstanding county records when they were picked for England, except Pietersen, and his selection was a gamble for a whole host of other reasons. They'd certainly be a very different side! :p

That's a good one. I think it's fair to say we'd probably not be doing as well as a test nation just now. My instinct is that a few of our older players who do have good county records would still be cluttering up our test team; Ramps is the obvious one I guess.

Dunc does like his "gut" picks & they generally seem to do better than the county stalwarts who get picked (Lewis, Key, Ed Smith, Ward, Adams); hopefully Louden can be a similar success.
