Surely Sarfraz redeemed himself when he pulled in that hanger off Taylor the other night

Was quality but that last ball single to keep Shaheen on strike was absolutely spineless. Has been horrible with the bat for the longest time.

Didn't he make a 50 against England as well? Sarfraz has been ordinary for a while but Latham has definitely been a bigger passenger in this World Cup.

Point taken. Latham has been even worse. Ideally you'd want a terribad keeper too but Hope has been decent with the bat.

Mortaza would have to demoralise the fielders on his own now.

Carey's batting has gone next level.

Every chance he'll be Australia's test keeper and test captain within the next 2 years.

Bumrah also walks in IMO. Though Boult could have something to say about that in the next game or two.

Bumrah has been superlative without taking a bagful of wickets. That's what happens with stats in short samples.

Warner, Rohit, Shakib, Starc and Carey are locked in now
I'd lock in Stokes in too tbh. Not many players have succeeded in the end of innings finishers role, and he's bowled and fielded excellently too.

Bumrah should walk into this XI as well, so we're looking at

Warner
Rohit
Shakib
???
Stokes
???
Carey (+)
???
Starc
???
Bumrah

Faf, Boult, Root, Tahir, Amir, Pooran, Woakes, Archer, Morris all in contention for those remaining spots.

Kohli also ^
Him and Bumrah have somewhat similar World Cups. Both have good/really good stats without absolutely dominating, but both have played crucial/key roles in the team. Bumrah has been absolutely exceptional in fact - stats smats I say.

Not sure if it's more of a concern for Indians or for the opposition that Kohli hasn't gone big/dominated yet...definitely one match left, possibly two. Surely he won't go a whole World Cup without a hundred?
(Also, what's the record for most runs in a WC without a hundred?)

A team of the tournament without any of Kohli, Root, Williamson and Smith would have been seen as very unlikely in May, wouldn't it?

Probably still should have one of them alongside Shakib. You can have two #3s, just don't fill the side with them

Only reason Kohli has had relative less flash world cup is because he is playing second fiddle to Rohit. If Rohit hadn't been so gun, Kohli woudl have been.

i kind of like the idea of a Shakib-Mushy 3-4 for team of the tournament tho. They're definitely the best pair stats wise for those 2 slots, no other 3/4 combo this WC compares right?
