Best innings, AA against England at Lords - made in a hopeless cause against tired bowlers who just didn't make an effort - how can you top that?

I would like to nominate Mark Richardson as most consistant Test batsman

His average is in the high 40s and he's scoring 50+ nearly every 2nd bat - which is better than Sachin!!! - he doesn't get headlines because he doesn't post big totals, but you can not fault his consistency especially as an opener !!!!!

Richardson is definately a first-choice player for NZ now, in tests anyway.

His story is remarkable...a spinner back in the early 90's who couldn't even hold a bat. He decided he would become a batsman because NZ needed some good openers & now he's averaging close to 50 in 22 test matches.

So there's hope for me yet, right?

None for me...I'm too aggressive and play too many shots to be a Richardson...and I'm not a NZelander either :P

Although if you haven't noticed yet I'm averaging 99 this year :D

Samuels has only played 2 test matches, how can he be the best young player in the world based on that?

Test Bat - Gibbs
ODI Bat - Kallis for his consistency
Young Test Bat - Sangakkara
Young ODI Bat - Sarwan (even though weak opposition)
Best Innings - Inzamam's 329 against New Zealand (funny you Kiwis overloked that one!)

Kallis was the best allrounder in both forms.

It's not the best young player in the world. It's supposed to an award for the player who looks most promising in 2002 or who has impressed you greatly in 2002. That's why Patel is there.

Because, as Mr Mxyzptlk said, I think that he can get better and better over the year and the next few at that! He's Impressed me.

That was your initial definition. I would interpret that as the best batsman in the world who is under 25 (people's definition of young may vary). Not "oh he might be really good in 2004", based on 2 test matches. If he performs well in 2004, I'll vote for him then. For now my vote goes to someone more deserving.
