The Greatest Innings Ever Played

A poster on here - Richard (the dude with 70 000 posts......... yes 70 000 posts) believes in some first chance average thingy, where by if you're dropped early in an innings then the innings isn't that good... I havn't been here long so I don't really know what it's all about, just trying to put you out of your anger and misery.... the longer posters here have heard about it time and time and time and time and time and time again so you're better off getting the info from them or Richard.... all quite proposterous tbh.
Ok, Cheers for the info!

Each to their own really, Richard's welcome to that opinion,
Whether I agree with it or not is another matter.

marcussjd, I share your view about Pietersen's innings. I have personally expressed a very similar view to yours - as I imagine many others have before my time - and received a puzzling response exactly along the lines predicted above.

Richard is a poster who has a huge amount to offer but a Quixotic desire to tilt at statistical windmills. Don't be put off.

Thanks, I must admit when I looked at the post count and then combined it with how dismissive he was, I was slightly taken a back and felt a bit unwelcome, none the less I shall continue posting

Duminy batting with the tail was better IMO.
It was a fantastic innings in the fact, as you mentioned, he was batting with the tail. It helped put SA into a strong position in the match when they had been at risk of conceding a large first innings deficit IIRC. Also the maturity displayed in that innings by somebody so inexperienced in International cricket against the best cricket nation was commendable.
However, for the sheer volume of runs that needed to be chased down and the manner in which it was accomplised I personally would place AB's knock marginally ahead of Duminy's but can see where your coming from.

No need to feel unwelcome, he's just disagreeing with you. Forums are more fun when people do that :)

He's on my ignore list, which saves me a lot of "WTF????"s and makes the sheer amount of material to be read on CW about half as voluminous.

"Sitter dropped by Shane Warne - crap innings."
Not really, but certainly not the best innings Pietersen has played nor even remotely close to one of the best ever.

Seriously, Zaremba, you are like an English God, if you didn't get like a super A* in GCSE or an A in A-level then I'll be shocked! I'll be lucky if I understand half the words you use... not necesserily this post but posts in the past have been full of litirary genious!

UIMM, in Mr. z's day they'd have been O-levels rather than GCSEs... but I might, just, be a year or two out.

Dude, what's all this animosity towards Richard for...

This place is more boring without him... he livens things up with his edgy opinions and sheer volumes of posting... long live Richard!

Interesting turn of phrase there. It makes it sound as though you find the place boring anyway but slightly less boring because of Richard.

Oh noes, I don't really have any animosity towards him. Just a practical consideration on my behalf.

You know, I only spotted today that the thread had no replies until yesterday. Never noticed it was a dig on the day it was dug, so to speak.
