So what? Test players should be judged on test records, not county records.
indeed so i agree,

although if a players county record is poor it is somewhat unlikely that he will gain a place in a test squad and begin a test record at all

Seriously, MacGill is not that bad.

He comes in for some unfair critism on here.

His County record is abysmal though.

Yes, but he has played enough test matches and has a far better record at test cricket to say he is a better spinner than giles.
Giles may be a better county cricket spinner then. But at test level, Mcgill is way ahead.

I would like to think that the Ashes would be close this time around but after the shellacking that the Aussies gave the Kiwi's, it might be another 3-1 series again.

I think the English media have overhyped their team a bit. They are good, but not THAT good!

We won't know until they walk out onto the field. Personally I'd like to see one quality Test, at least.
im fairly sure you will, given that almost every side tends to have at least one quality test against australia in a series. no team can really destroy another test class team in every test, especially in a 5 match series.

West Indies in Australia 2000/01 springs to mind. Absolute mauling, 5 tests in a row, and West Indies weren't great but they were certainly "test class". West Indies destroyed England in 10 consecutive tests in 84 and 85, too.

surely the test in adelaide was at least competitive?
australia only had a lead of about 10 runs or sometin and then they were 46/4 chasing 130 in the 2nd inning.
even the test in sydney was somewhat competitive. not so sure about the 84/85 series between england and WI though.

Here's a little joke that I found hilarious..

'A seven-year-old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama today when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him.

'The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge awarded custody to his aunt. The boy however confirmed that his aunt beat him more than his parents, and refused to live there. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents the boy cried out that they beat him more than anyone.

'Then in an unprecedented move, the judge dramatically allowed the boy to choose who should have custody of him...

In a final ruling , custody was granted to the English cricket team as the boy firmly believes that they are not capable of beating anyone.'
