Steve Smith's Unflinching Average - A Statistical Rebuke to the Inflated Records of 2000s Legends.

Smith had such a high average and then proceeded into nosedive where he is just hanging on above 55 is kind of the opposite of being consistent?
True

Steve Smith’s average :
Touched 40 in his 22nd Test
Touched 50 in his 25th Test
Touched 55 in his 28th Test
Touched 60 in his 49th Test
Touched a peak of 64.95 in 68th Test
Never dipped below 59 till 100th Test
Dipped below 58 in his 105th Test
Dipped below 57 in his 109th Test
Fluctuating between 56-57 in last 10 Tests
Now his average is 56.03

What’s the Kiwi curse? The BD one is where Bangladesh have ****blocked a number of greats from achieving >30 against everyone everywhere. In Smith’s case it’s 40.
Kiwis have done the same to many greats. Marshall, Bumrah, Sobers etc.

The opening post is a case of statistics failing to paint the full picture. Just looking at the number of Tests where players maintained a particular average fails to acknowledge the fact that Smith played more Tests than those compared to him.
To clarify, Smith averaged 57+ for 59.67% of his 119 Test career. Compared to this, Sobers achieved this for 76.34% of his career and Hammond for 77.65%
The 55 Tests for Sutcliffe is confusing as he played only 54 Tests while Kiwi Bert Sutclife played only 42.

Seems you missed that the conversation was about performance in a particular country.
He played 3 tests there, surely people understand that in his case, that's hardly a sample size. Matter of fact, it was 2 bad tests. Marshall's case is fundamentally different from Sobers or even Bumrah.
