South Africa team selection

He performed for a long time domestically, and eventually came good near the end of SL series.
He also had a couple of good outings for the Lions, doing better than Mulder who was the only other real contender with Morris having falling out of favour as a result of injuries and being inconsistent.

Great shout!

Wonder if we can say Rudolph, Ontong & vd Wath too.
I pulled these out manually, so this list may not be completely accurate, but these are the players who played 20+ games for South Africa without going to a World Cup.

Neil McKenzie - 68
Albie Morkel - 56
Ryan McLaren - 54
Jacques Rudolph - 43
Chris Morris - 34
Colin Ingram - 31
Dave Callaghan - 29
Justin Ontong - 27
Eric Simons - 23
Mike Rindel - 22
Mornantau Hayward - 21
Alviro Petersen - 21

I know Albie had all the potential in the world, but McClaren was a mainstay for us at number 7 for a while. Him not making a WC squad is just as sad.

What's the academy's plans for the SA winter? Everyone is in the UK and environs, hard to get competent opposition
It seems like it is just Sri Lanka we have a relationship with these days for our academy. We went there last year so wouldn't surprise me if they come here.

Amla still struggling to get to double figures. Miller couldn't get Punjab over the line in a good test for WC this evening.

Ngidi and Nortje set to return to cricket this weekend I think.

Steyn ruled out the remainder of IPL is a bit worrying.

South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL with "inflammation in his shoulder". Steyn had missed Royal Challengers' match against Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday night with what captain Virat Kohli called a "niggle" at the toss, but it has now emerged that the bowler cannot take any more part in the tournament.

"Dale Steyn has been prescribed with ample rest due to inflammation in his shoulder. On account of state of his health, Dale will not be available to take part further in the ongoing season of IPL," Sanjeev Churiwala, chairman of Royal Challengers said. "The team will deeply miss his energy and presence around. We wish him a speedy recovery and all the luck for all future endeavours."

So that's Steyn, Ngidi, and Nortje who are under injury clouds. That's not particularly good given that our selections have been built around establishing the best bowling attack, although Ngidi and Nortje do look like they should be ready in time for the tournament.

Ngidi and Nortje should be alright. Steyn is a worry. He was bowling beautifully.

With the tournament 5 weeks away it certainly isn't ideal.

Should see Nortje/Ngidi this weekend or early next week. For SA's sake you probably want Titans to make SFs for Ngidi.

Makes you wonder how long Steyn can actually keep going...he's clearly struggling even when only having to bowl 4 overs, i hate to say the world cup might be a farewell but....

I have a bad feeling about this.
It is difficult to know for sure what is going on but the way the injury is being spoken about you get the feeling Steyn/CSA decided he should come home and rather just get treatment and not take any unnecessary chances. But that may be my occasional optimistic side coming through....
