Quinton De Kock has flopped badly at World Cups

Everton Seymour

U19 Debutant
So the SA Cricket thread had me digging into some numbers, and what I found was shocking ...Quinton De Kock has not been very good at World Cups

ODI WC
2015-2019*
In 17 ODI World Cup innings he averages 30 at a SR of 85.55
0 World Cup hundreds , 4 50's

T20 WC
2014-2022*
In 18 T20 World Cup knocks he averages 24 at a SR of 130
2 50's

I remember him being bloody awful in the 2015 world cup after his fine start. He was partnering Amla who was borderline terrible at that point in 2019 world cup

Not sure why this is a surprise to anyone because he isn't really that good is he?

International Coach
Perfectly servicable. Not great, but far from anything which makes his spot vulnerable.
thing is though thinking of some of those SA teams he's sort of the guy you would want to be able to kick on, especially the more recent years
like those are perfectly cromulent numbers if you're temba bavuma but he's not right

Sarcasm or being genuine? Because I half agree tbh. In full flight I think he's one of the most destructive and watchable players in world cricket, but too often flatters to deceive itbt
Fine player, and I really want him to have an ATG tournament and win some silverware for SA. But would say that's increasingly unlikelynow

De Kock is talented but to me he doesn’t know what his batting style is. His either trying to smash it early and gets out or he’ll hold an innings and have a poor strike rate and gets out later and puts pressure for the rest of the batting order

Not sarcasm, though wouldn’t blame you for assuming it is given my track record.

I think he *should* be really really good but he seems to find ways not to be

I keep going back and forth on him (no pun intended)

Sometimes he looks like the next best thing since Gilchrist, then he has bad periods and I think he's really not as good as everyone thinks. He's probably somewhere in between. Outstanding international cricketer but not quite the level that he looks like he could be
