Predictions for England winter tours in IND & PAK

C_C

International Captain
i said that he would struggle to play flintoff and jones if they get the ball to reverse considering how much hes struggled against swing and seam.

:-O :-O

Struggles against swing and seam ?
Really ?

When has Tendulkar EVER struggled agaisnt swing and seam ?

Lets look at the teams that has had excellent swingers in Tendulkar's era: Australia, England, West Indies,South Africa and Pakistan. Lets also look at England and his performance against SL when Chaminda Vaas has been present.

Australia first :

As an 18 year old, he handled Reid, Whitney,McDermott and Hughes pretty well in Australia, averaging 46+, including a stunning ton in Perth.

Averaged 46+ in Australia in 1999, when McGrath-Gillespie were at the peak of their powers- not even Lara has averaged 40+ in OZ when those two and Warney were at the top of their game.

Averaged a very credible 35+ as a 16 year old against the might of Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and waqar younis - easily one of the greatest attacks to have taken the cricket field and second (narrowly) in their day behind the WI pace quartet.

Back in 99, he played one of the greatest knocks in the history of cricket-136 against Wasim and Waqar, two top flight swingers of the ball.

Blasted Donald-Pollock around the ballpark when IND toured RSA in 97.... his previous series in RSA saw him average 33- a modest performance at best, but he was only 19 back then, facing Donald at the peak of his prowess.

Blew away Ambrose and Walsh in the caribbean - both excellent pacers - in 96/97 to average 57+.

His WORST average against England is 61.25, in his very first tour of ENG ...since then he's averaged 85.60 and 66.83 in ENG.

And against SL, when Chaminda Vaas is present, he has scored 666 runs @ 83.25

Lets look at ODIs, shall we ?
He struggled a bit early on in ODIs as a youngster but once he was promoted up the order, he blossomed into the best opening batsman in the history of ODI cricket. And as an opener, you face the new ball, when it swings and seams the most.
He averages 53.22 vs OZ, 37.93 vs PAK, 42.08 vs RSA, 52.46 vs WI .....

yea, the bloke cant play swing and seam.
Mate- you wont find a better exponent at handling swing or seam since 1990 - steve waugh and lara included.
Now you can take yer BS somewhere else.

yes, and if you had taken the effort to notice, you might have actually realised that mcgrath bowled far worse at Old trafford than flintoff did at Lords. Mcgrath bowled well in 2 innings of this series, Flintoff has bowled well in 4.
Oh Now you are comparing a half fit Mcgrath with Flitofff ? Not to forget that Mcgrath bowled in only 4 innings, whereas Flintoff bowled in 6. When Mcgrath bowled well England could not even reach 200. Australia were 275+ in every inning except the 1st innings @ Lords that too it was because of Harmison's super spell and not because Flintoff bowled as well as or better than Mcgrath.

yep, they would have probably lost the game in 90 overs, given the caning they got in both innings at Old trafford.
Nope, to win the game in 90 overs, Enngland would have needed to score @ 4.7 runs which they have not done when Mcgrath has played in this series. Not to forget that chasing 423 to win in the 4th innings is a daunting task and not many can handle that kind of Pressure. England probably would have folded under 300. ;)

oh wow, well done in completely missing the point. not once did i say that tendulkar couldnt play an england side from 10 years ago, i said that he would struggle to play flintoff and jones if they get the ball to reverse considering how much hes struggled against swing and seam.
This is what you said :-

"normally do on indian pitches? gee when was the last time that happened?"

I told you the time when it happened(i.e. Enlish bowlers were carted all over India). ;)

Anyways why qualify your statement with an 'IF'. Are you afraid that Flintoff/Jones/Harmy are going to forget the art of reverse swing as soon as they land in India :D .

he never actually got to face wasim or waqar in their prime, and he very very rarely got to face walsh, ambrose and mcgrath on seaming wickets.
For couple of seconds was like :-O :-O

After that :laugh::laugh:

but to say he won't score A RUN is harsh. I am sure even Walsh (as a batter) would score a run against any bowler you pick. You should have said "he won't do well". At least, that is more understandable.

Walsh and Ambrose on the first day at Jamaica in 97 was a seaming track. Donald and Pollock at Durban and Capetown in 97 and at Johannesberg in 2001 were seaming tracks. so, I don't really see your point.
