Stuck at work so can't watch it. Surprised the Cherry/Brave Blossoms aren't further ahead at HT. Maybe the Ruskies will run out of gas second half.

How're they looking? When Connacht and Jersey gave them a touch up before the tournament one sort of feared the worst.

Russia playing well, physical. Leaving everything out on the park. See what happens in the last 20 min.

Sort of had them pegged as a poor man's Georgia (admittedly based on little more than ingrained prejudice of developing rugby nations of being all ****s and no finesse, and geographical proximity), so that would fit my mental image of how they play.

Watched it this evening. Thoughts -

- Japan were poor in the first half hour. It's not like they weren't stringing moves together, they just dropped it, shanked kicks and lineouts and randomly wandered offside. In the second half they had all the possession and made some lovely scores but if they have an opening period like that against Samoa, let alone the big boys, they could be 20 points down.

- I love the **** out of Japan's basketball passes. They will probably concede a 70m interception try and some stage, but still all in good fun.

- The Russian #7 ws their best player by miles and should get a gig in the european pro leagues.

Mark Pougatch has just introduced Ireland v Scotland as the pool decider, confidently ignoring the host nation

If yer Sweaties have a 27 minutes like this against the Blossoms we could see the hosts make a mockery of that.

Russell has kicked away far too much to far too little effect.

Feels like every time I watch Union these days there’s a horrific injury.

Not a lot of quality in this game so far.

Japan v Scotland looks very interesting now.

Good effort by Ireland, but as always with them the concern is knock out matches knowing their history.

The schedule is a lot kinder to us this year. Last time we had Argentina a week after having the squad decimated by a brutal game against France.

Still feels like this group peaked a year too soon, but we’ll see how it goes.
