Nah this is not true. Lyon's had success and won games in all conditions.

Jadeja is underrated, but Lyon is clearly the best spinner going around right now.

Yeah that was a fair critique after, say, the SL tour a few years back. But he pretty demonstrably showed that he had improved in winning games in favourable conditions on demand after that (though, still not perfect, as the last Ashes showed).

Over the last 40 years, very few spinners have averaged under 40 in Australia. Lyon averaging 32 is the 15th best spin bowling average in Australia in the last 4 decades. If that's narrowed down to finger spinners he's sitting in the top 4 or 5 and those ahead of him have a much smaller sample size.

Is the same list for India. The list is a lot longer with a lot more finger spinners towards the top. It's an easier country to bowl finger spin in.

So comparing home averages for Indian spinners vs Lyon is comparing apples and oranges.

However, despite Lyon being so good and such an important part of Australia's side, I think Jadeja adds more to any team he's picked for than Lyon does. He's my number 1 spinner right now. And the best all rounder currently playing IMO (Ben Stokes is a more genuine all rounder but Jadeja wins more matches with the ball than Stokes does with either bat or ball).

weird comment. Of course those 3 are going to do it a lot more on their "home soils". Their home soils is heavily spin-friendly. And they don't have Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins to compete with for wickets.

That is one way to look at. The other way to look at is that they don't have such fast bowlers to bowl on unfriendly conditions to spinners, so he can be pampered from the massacre, and finally to have well rounded stats.

Jadeja will win you matches single handed when the conditions suit him. Lyon will not despite being more all rounded.

You're making the somewhat bold assumption Jadeja will be playing in those conditions, if they arise in a test where India has only picked one spinner. Same goes for Ashwin.

This is true on other websites, but not on this forum - there is not an over representation of Indian fans posters on this site. Hence why I wanted to do the poll on this forum where there is not a standout country in terms of regular posters.
