Player Comparisons

Line and Length

Cricketer Of The Year
The number of the player comparisons are now cluttering Cricket Chat. Some of these comparisons are, IMO, bordering on ridiculous - comparing bowlers with all-rounders being an example.
Perhaps it is time to lump all of these player comparisons under one section - as was done with drafts. This way, those members who are into this sort of thing can indulge to their heart's content, leaving Cricket Chat to real cricket discussions rather than voting on pure hypotheticals.

Just ban nil effort threads. Making a player comparison thread is fine if you have something to say.

Making a thread about anything else is boring if you make no point and just expect people to fill it with the same opinions over and over.

The problem is the zero content OPs that just immediately turn into continuations of a previous thread because there’s nothing there to respond to.

The current comparisons don’t even have slippy’s charming talent for the absurd. They’re just dumb and boring. If it turns out the OP is/are slippy multis then he’s lost his touch.

Not sure what can be done apart banning them which isn’t desirable either. Maybe a sub forum would be best and you need moderator clearance to post a comparison. With penalties for posters who dodge that requirement. That’d probably be a tedious burden for mods but even volunteers have to earn their keep.

Whatever it takes!!!
At the risk of giving more unpaid work for the mods, I think Howe is right and we have to take a case by case approach. And maybe warn certain posters if we feel the comparison threads are excessive and bordering on spam.

Each thread gets a rating with 1 being dangerous, 2 being bad, 3 being ok, 4 good,5 excellent (a reprieve). If you score a 1 you go into a poster comparison for the month and if you lose you get an infraction notice. If you get two bads in the space of a month, you also go into the poster comparison. If there is no other poster with 2 bads or 1 dangerous in the month, you automatically lose the comparison. (or we throw in which ever mod is out of favour with everyone at that point)
