Phlegms half assed NZ Story

Not Terrible
Clearly not
Then let the losing streak continue

O'Brien is also a fun guy to try make awesome. I remember in my 08 game I managed to get Jeets averaging like 30+ in Tests with the bat. Painstakingly got him plenty of juicy not outs and he just got good.

I am willing to bet that the bowlers from Bangladesh who defeated you were mostly spinners(SLA bowlers to be precise) in that series. Am I right?

ARGHHHHH BATTING COLLAPSES AGAIN!!!

Australia Tour of New Zealand A.K,A "Batting coaches nightmare

This series was characterised by NZ once again reclaiming their immaculate skill of losing 2-3 wickets 5 minutes before the end of a session. Coach Kieran Horton says this will be remedied before Sl arrive by punches to the face.

New Zealand win by 162 runs.

About time they performed, but we still lost, and the team we beat them with last time wasn't as good as our current one. This one has a bowling attack ffs, not just Franklin doing all the work. Our batting is definitely worse though. Alex Carey has to be the best bowling allrounder in the world, good with the ball and irritating with the bat. Wade Garrett has over 60 wickets this season with 3 tests still to go. He took 19 wickets in two tests against England. Trent Andrews looks the goods as a leg spinner and Franklin is a machine, has 320 test wickets these days.

Peter Fulton is having an OK season, but not the giant he usually is. Tim Lythe after his great start gets to 20-40 then gets out, Tim Roth and Brendan McCullum have been brilliant.

Three tests left against SL, who won here last time. The team can't equal the great 2009ers, even though on paper they're better, but they've copped the pain and hopefuly after a 3-0 thrashing of the Sri Lankans we can perhaps get England over here and some games against number ones India.

Btw England won the Ashes 5-0 and have won the Ashes three times in a row, only in ICC could that happen.

Right, just played the first test against SL on a minefield and it was close. BFJ managed to get hit by right are medium pacer G Lanka and now gets to enjoy 4 weeks on the sideline, which basically means he's gone for the season. Bugger.

New Zealand 179 all out

J Ryder 37
B McCullum 31

M Suraj 3/32

G Lanka and M Suraj are well known enemies of NZ attempts to defeat SL. G Lanka is especially outstanding in that he's a rank medium pacer that has taken 330 wickets at 21.81 in his career.

Sri Lanka 157 all out

C Kapugedera 52
M Suraj 26*

W Garrett 5/50

Amazing how things change. Up until halfway through last season I'd had James Franklin as the only bowler worth mentioning, and the batsmen basically scored ****loads so Jimmeh had something to bowl to, now its him and Garrett (and Andrews is looking the goods) saving the batsmen this season.

New Zealand 253/5

T Lythe 69
P Fulton 66

New Zealand win by 5 wickets

Good start to the series. Two tests left in the series and season, will post some end of season stats at the end.

Its been a few weeks later than after tea, but anyway, moving on...

Those above were this seasons stats for Garrett and Franklin, here's ther career records:

Jimmeh Franklin

Left arm fast medium
76 tests
335 wickets @ 28.33
BB 7/76
21 fifers, 4 tenfors.

To top it off with the bat he has 2248 runs at 28.10 with one century and nine fifties.

Wade Garrett

Right arm fast
23 tests
129 wickets @ 27.90
BB 7/70
9 fifers, 3 tenfors.

Trent Andrews

Right arm leg spin
11 tests
37 wickets @ 34.41 (last year 7 tests, 32 wickets @ 29.06)
BB 5/133
just the one 5fer.

Peter "God" Fulton

Last season: 12 tests, 940 runs at 42.73 with two centuries and five fifties and a HS of 108

He's in decline judging by the past two years and at 36, thats expected. In case he retires on me, I want to post the NZ captains career stats here. Note that until he was 33 he averaged over 60. WAG.

74 tests
6876 runs at 55.01
18 centuries
35 fifties
HS 254* vs England at Lords (off memory)

Jesse Ryder

53 tests
3531 runs at 45.86
5 centuries
20 fifties
HS 189

Timothy Lythe

31 tests
2391 runs at 42.70
6 centuries
13 fifties
HS 201*

at 34 he wont have a long career, but hopefuly he'll make a good number three for us. So far he is.

Jacob Oram

Another 36 year old. He's basically a part time medium pacer these days and averages 40 in tests with the ball. Can still bat though.

87 tests
5313 runs at 42.17
14 centuries
23 fifties
HS 256

Peter Ingram

On the verge of retirement aged 36, Pinga had a fast rise and a quick fall in his short career for NZ. He hasn't played for the Black Caps in over two years, and never fully adjusted to the move to the number three role from number four he was given after the retirement of Fleming, but when he was good he was very good.

32 tests
2092 runs @ 41.02
4 centuries
10 fifties
HS 156

Flem274*

Just flicked over to 2015. Oram and Pinga are gone, but I have wayyy more regens than normal and quite a few are looking bloody good. One of the regens might be a straight swap, only had one year of FC (8 games) and is 21, but has a batting record of 46 and has a bowling average of 40 as wel admittedly, and because he's right arm fast he's probably a rank pie chucker, so Hucknall or Ryder and planned might slot in to number 6.

RF bolwer Trent Liddel and OS Ryan Dawes have good records for their first years. Will follow them closely. A new regen called Scott Wall has three centuries and no fifites, averaging 58. So there's some serious talent in here, as well as the awesomest name, Fraser Speed and he's RFM.

EDIT: damn it, a WC year, which means ODIs which I've been skipping and this has resulted in me being ranked 9th. It is a home hosted WC, well co-hosted with Aus, though. I'll have a play.

Australia 162 all out

As for the rest of the WC, don't ask.

Anyway, just had the first test in Zimbabwe. Test wise this season is wayyyyyyy too short, just the six tests and they're all two test series, probably because I've slipped back to 6th. :@

We have Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe, then England come here, and then its off to the WI. My current NZ team is:

P Fulton*
T Roth
T Lythe
J Ryder
J Morris
N Hucknall
B McCullum+
J Franklin
W Garrett
T Liddell
T Andrews

Anyway, here's the result of the first test on a minefield.

Zimbabwe 219 all out

T Hove 85
T Taibu 32

T Andrews 3/48
W Garrett 3/58

NZ 285 all out

T Roth 76
T Lythe 61
J Franklin 53

K Cronje 4/103
H Matanga 3/35

We were cruising at 1/155 before collapsing to 7/197. Jimmeh and Garrett (31) recovered the innings though.

Zimbabwe 135 all out

D Williams 53
T Taibu 16

N Hucknall 4/20 (had 3/0 at one stage)
W Garrett 4/52

David Williams really was a one man show here. Garrett came out firing with two quick wickets then Hucknall raped the middle order.

NZ 70/0

T Roth 40*
P Fulton 28*

New Zealand win by ten wickets.

Apart from our batting collapse it was a dominant performance. Good to see the bowlers fighting over the wickets rather than Garrett and Franklin taking them all. I'm liking this new bowling attacks balance. Liddell took two wickets and bowled tidily, I am concerned about the lengths of his spells though, he is a fast bowler but he lasts about 5-7 overs before he gets low on energy. Good bowler though.

Flem274*

123/5
Here's the second test:

New Zealand 409 all out

J Morris 151
T Liddell 77 (not bad for a specialist fast bowler)
T Lythe 56

K Cronje 7/115
H Matanga 1/60

Don't be fooled by the scorecard, the batting was pathetic from the top order. Only Tim Lythe showed any application at first, until he was joined by Morris. Unfortunately lythe decided to get himself out and Morris was left to bat with the tail whilst still in the twenties. At one stage NZ were 8/195, hardly spectacular. Fast bowler Tim Liddell decided to stick around though, and the pair shared an NZ record partnership for the 9th wicket of 180. which is the third highest of all time. It only ended when Morris departed for 151, and the damage was done.

Zimbabwe 363 all out

D Williams 93
T Hove 61

N Hucknall 4/60
W Garrett 3/101

Pretty annoyed with that. Bowling was far too loose with the exception of Hucknall

New Zealand 264/5

P Fulton 111
J Morris 61*

H Matanga 2/25
E Chademamna 2/71

Decided to take the draw home. Fulton back in form, Morris does well again. Simmed the ODIs, won them 2-1, notable events including Liddells first ODI fifer, Hucknall doing something with the bat as well as ball and Ellison scoring another 50, amongst other things.

Morris topped the batting averages thanks to his stellar second test. Lythe was consistently good as well and Fulton got a century in the final innings. Roth was inconsistent but scored a few but apart from that the batting was poor. Hucknall failed at his first attempt at number 6 and Ryder averaged 8 in the pivotal number four position.

The two standout bowlers were Niall Hucknall (8 wickets at 14.50) and Wade Garrett (10 wickets at 21.60). Andrews, the leggie, was OK with 6 wickets at 21, would have liked a few more though. Franklin was disappointing with only 3 wickets in the series at 38 and Liddell was economical but for a fast bowler bowling to minnows he only took two wickets at 50.

We better pull our socks up in the batting department for the home series against England. Oh and btw Bangladesh won the ODI World Cup.

England in New Zealand 2016

Tim Roth is injured and out for four weeks. Replaced by Scott Wall. Jesse Ryder averaging 8 this season has been dropped and replaced with Kane Williamson.

1st Test

England 292 all out

A Shaw 98
I Bell 60

W Garrett 6/71
J Franklin 3/86

Haters of Ian Bell will be pleased to know that Bell ran out his partner Shaw for 98 before being made to look like an absolute douche by Garrett when his middle stump was knocked over and he had no idea where the ball was.

New Zealand 286 all out

B McCullum 107
N Hucknall 74

L Plunkett 5/101
J Anderson 3/58

Epic fail from the top order. were 5/68 at one stage. Thank god Hucknall actualy did something with the bat for the first time in his test career and stuck with McCullum.

England 174 all out

G Driver 49
C Thompson 43

T Liddell 4/29
T Andrews 3/20

Thats more like it, put England in their place. Liddell for the first time in a test was both economical and destructive, and teamed up with the legspinner to rip the heart out of the England side. Franklin once again disposed of the openers early.

New Zealand 181/5

P Fulton 52
J Morris 37

W Roach 3/30
H Adler 1/23

NZ win by five wickets. MoM Brendon McCullum.

Batsmen are still capitulating to anything scarier than a twig, but the bowlers are doing the business. God forbid we hit a flat pitch where our batsmen can collapse away and make it harder on the bowlers, oh look...

England 532 all out

R Taylor 196
V Chopra 117

W Garrett 3/113
T Andrews 3/137

Oh joy, a flat pitch and an umpire that couldnt see Robin Taylor was plumb LBW three times to Trent Andrews. Gah. Was a good (flat tarck bully) hundred though, and possibly deserved the double. Only possibly.

New Zealand 312 all out

S Wall 134
K Williamson 54

J Anderson 4/101
L Plunkett 3/67

still capitulated. 4/116 then 5/193, got to enjoy the follow on by ten lousy runs.

New Zealand 304 all out

J Morris 74
B McCullum 68
T Lythe 50

A Rashid 6/98
L Plunkett 2/81

England 87 for 1

V Chopra 47*
G Driver 29

England win by 9 wickets.

Tied series, mainly because we can't bat. Geez, up until the start of last season we couldn't bowl, now its the reverse. I think a big part of our problem is Fulton has really declined (averaging 36 from this seasons four tests) and we have no consistent Oram at number 6 to save us if things go pear shaped. Ryder's lack of form has hurt and Morris is still finding his consistency at this level. In the bowling department my only concern is Franklin showing signs of age, with his wickets coming at 45 a piece. He has had periods of sharpness, like his ownage of the English top 3 in the first test, but he's on the decline too, except now we have a stream of quality bowlers coming through. We have plenty of batsmen, and I'm in no doubt Scott Wall and Tim Roth will make a good opening partnership, plus Ryder should regain form and Morris, Williamson, Dearman, Ellison and Law are all inexperienced but very good batsmen. Hucknall needs to pull his socks up with the bat otherwise Ryder or Ellison will be the number 6 next season.

Liddell is dire, Ellison's batting saves him for now.
Liddells only real bad season was last season. Previous to that due to Garrett's loss of form and subsequent dropping after a shocking season (must have been the year after I stopped updating actualy) and the retirement of Franklin, Liddell after a handful of tests was given the responsibility of seamer number one. He did OK, he's been demoted to third seamer and if he does crap for half a season, the impressive young Kurt Moncur will probably come in.

Ellison has done well, his number 8 batting is the dire stuff. An average of 30 isn't stellar, and is inflated by the ridiculously flat pitches of the Bangladesh tests, but he's shown serious potential in the few tests he's played.

I'm just glad my number one fast bowler Garrett stormed back into the side with a vengeance, five five wickets bags in a row. Gave Trent Andrews a real hand with the ass kicking of opposition batting line ups.
