Not defending Imran here - his comments were in poor taste and unnecessary.

But how is calling players from Africa racist? Van Wyk was from South Africa and Sean Ervine from Zimbabwe.Quetta's foreign players for the final were of questionable quality. I hadn't even heard of most them. Who is Rayad Emrit?
There is a subtle implicit racism in South Asian societies towards black people and black countries. It's hard to detect because it's not necessarily similar to the way racism that makes news is manifested - such as hate crimes or police discrimination etc. It's a slightly different South Asian flavour which is more a reflection of the shallowness and superficiality of these countries - being fair skinned/whit is considered better, being dark skinned/black is considered worse.

There is reason to believe that his comment came out that way in part because they were second string players, but in part because they were black from Africa.

Yeah I mean, just looking at this:

I don’t even know the name of any of these so-called foreign players. It seems they just picked up players from wherever. Picked some from Africa and called them foreign players. Picked some from Africa and called them foreign players.
Why can't foreign players be from Africa? Would he have been as dismissive about de Villiers? If so, wtf?

It just doesn't make sense unless it was racist.

There is a noticeable racist tone when Indians talk about blacks, and even North-East Indians. Not surprised at all.

Sharjeel Khan could be a big loss for their white ball side. He is one of the only modern batsmen they have and can get them off to fliers. I am not saying he is a gun or anything but was important in changing the philosophy of the side.

To add to this, Imran is a repeat offender when it comes to this issue. A while back, Imran was confronted on television by a politician who happens to have a darker skin tone. The politician tried to embarrass Imran by showing a picture of his supposed illegitimate daughter and comparing how similar they looked (I guess to childishly prove that she was, in fact, Imran's daughter). In the clip below in Urdu, Imran recalls that incident and snidely remarks "if I go to Africa, I can find a 100 kids that look like you". And of course the crowd laughs uproariously in approval. Disgusting.

Imran makes a racist comment

Rabat but no Wahab? Whatever.

It seems like hardly anyone bowls right arm in Pakistan these days.
Wahab is frustrating but I think Pakistan still need him. Wonder if it is an injury.

Typical Pakistan to. Their opening bowlers from the u19 WC are in.

The opening pair will be a very interesting call. If they feel happy to give guys a chance in middle order then they will open with Azhar.

Of course Fawad Alam will create loads of debate. Will he or won't he.

When is the first test against Ireland?

Only two tests against England is pretty dire, especially considering they had 4 the last time round.

Exactly a month to the day.

It seems like that is what England do. Smaller attraction 2 tests and then the bigger attraction gets 4/5

Pakistan squad for the Test tour of Ireland and England:

Sarfraz Ahmed (C)
Asad Shafiq
Azhar Ali
Haris Sohail
Mohammad Amir
Hasan Ali
Fakhar Zaman
Sami Aslam
Imam-ul-Haq
Babar Azam
Usman Sallahuddin
Shadab Khan
Mohammad Abbas
Rahat Ali
Saad Ali
Faheem Ashraf

Fawad Alam overlooked yet again.

Hussain Talat and Imam-ul-Haq (Inzi's nephew) make the cut despite the former having never scored an FC hundred and the latter averaging 27 in the current season. But they're only 22 so they must be the next big thing ofc. Nevermind that Misbah made a comeback at 33, that was probably just an aberration.

Basically 9 batsmen, keeper, spinner, seamer all-rounder , 4 seamers

So many batsmen. Shows you how unsure they are and the fact that Fawad Alam can't even get in such a big group picked says his chances are almost zero.

I think it sucks too obviously but to play devil's advocate, maybe your two gripes kind of explain each other away a bit. Talat and Imam might just be going for the experience because they're rated as long-term prospects rather than as serious batting options, explaining the need to take nine batsmen.
