but if he is playing say federer in china, will the fans still cheer more for him?
Maybe not but your question wasn't why isn't Novak more popular than the greatest tennis player of all time.

Fed is a different kettle of fish entirely, but if Stan plays Novak in China the crowd are well and truly cheering Novak.

Good fight from Sharapova. When she steps on a court she wants to win.

Dreadful from Kvitová to throw in 5 serve faults from 4-3, 40-15 though.

Sharapova just more well-rounded today. Kept her intensity up for the whole match.

Up to the Pliskobot and the doubles then.
That was a classic Maria match, actually probably the first this year, last year had about 15, outplayed, never gave in somehow won the second, then strutted in the 3rd against an opponent whose will had been broken.. Great match though, the intensity of Fed Cup, like Davis Cup is something else, shame the scheduling is often so pish for both.

Fancy Pavs I have to say, Pliskova must be knackered after her trip from China.

Maria said she'd play the doubles if asked, don't really see that happening, would be hilarious though.

Started well this match, Nastia hasn't quite thrown in the towel despite the 'fans' shouting for Sveta.

You wouldn't think they'd go away from Makarova/Vesnina though, if they did they'd have put Makarova in for the singles? And Makarova/Sharapova would just be...no.

Ahh well, that's why I don't bet on tennis, Pavs had her chances but ****ed them up in typical choking ways, down to the doubles.

If Mak isn't fit, I'm guessing Pavs/Vesnina.

Tense stuff. Pavs/Vesnina it is, Lucie S is also ill so it's Pliskova/Strycova down the other end.

Not sure how good Pliskova is in doubles, that serve should give her a fair few point sthough.

Vesnina and Pavs are about as mentally weak as you can get, total collapse from them.

Well done Czechs, good fun comp.

Dull start to London, very early days of course, but really don't want a repeat of last year where we got one cracking match in the semi and dour matches elsewhere.
