Cricket Web Green v Cricket Web Blue
CWBCC Stadium

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Cricket Web Blue followed up their dominant performance against the Masters XI by thrashing Cricket Web Green by an innings and 107 runs. Gritty batting was complemented by fiery fast bowling, and the Blues made the Greens follow on and then won comfortably.

Aggressive batting from Thamba Mamesh (41) gave way to the solidity of Robert Cribb, facing 282 balls in his innings of 108. The third wicket partnership between Cribb and Pete Young was 153 runs in total, and Young offered no chances in his innings of 125. With 10 fours and 2 sixes he was completely at ease at the crease throughout. Tom Halsey added to his impressive record against CW Blue with another 5 wicket haul, but the visitors scored a large 425 in their first innings.

But the Greens made life more difficult for themselves against a highly effective bowling attack. Only four bowlers were needed to bowl out CW Green for 189, though the batsmen all settled in well. Andrew Garven was the only one to carry on past fifty, scoring a quick 56 off 45 balls, and a series of loose shots proved the undoing of the hosts. Manan Shah was the chief destroyer with 3 wickets, though Ben Taylor struck twice crucially in his brief spell of spin. Demeza enforced the follow-on with his side in the lead by 236 runs.

Shah started the second innings slide with a slower ball to remove Anthony Lezama for 12. It was his first ball of the innings, and he accepted a simple caught-and-bowled. To finish off the over he produced a regulation outswinger to snatch the edge of Nick Scott, out for a duck. Then, against the left-arm duo of Collins and Demeza, CW Green slumped to 98-7. Shah was recalled to the attack with the tail exposed and wrapped up the innings to finish with career figures of 4 for 33 and a Man of the Match award.

Cricket Web Colts v Masters XI
Fardin Qayyumi CC

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Heath Streak held his nerve with the bat and drove Cricket Web Colts to a heartbreaking defeat in front of an expectant home crowd. Streak scored 33 not out in the Masters XI second innings to anchor a close 3-wicket win.

After the Colts batted first they were made to pay for some loose strokeplay, often getting set and throwing away their wickets. Jennifer Law played a composed innings of 64 at the top, but she and Chris Butler (39) were out to Shane Warne in lapses in concentration. Law misjudged a slider and extended her pad - out lbw - while Butler somehow managed to edge a wide full toss to Lara at slip. Shan Jasotharan did better with his opportunity and hit 8 fours in a 57-ball innings of 70. But he too tossed away his wicket, slashing Rankin to the gully. Will Kerr was then required to play another rearguard innings and did so to the effect of 47, but was ninth out in the total of 299.

In response the Masters XI racked up 328. The openers piled on 118 and threatened a large innings for the Masters, but the Colts fought back after Wilson trapped Geraint Jones lbw for 60. Nick Hancock took 3 key wickets with his medium pace, including top-scorer Ed Smith for 91. Fast bowler Greg Thomas then recovered from a poor start to take 4-107, tearing through the lower order. CW Colts started shakily in their second knock, behind by 29 runs. Law and Griffen were out within 30 runs, prompting Bosco Fitzsimmons (42) and Butler (36) to rebuild.

However a stunning burst from Tyron Henderson mangled their good work and the lofty aspirations of the Colts. In his second spell he took 4 wickets and the Colts lost 4 for 3 to slump to 112-6. Another rescue mission was undertaken by Kerr and Hancock. They put on 108 until Henderson took a sixth wicket, dismissing Hancock for 34. Following his demise the remainder of the wickets fell quickly, including Kerr for a hard-fought 72, skying a pull shot to midwicket. The Colts led by 204 runs when they were out for 233, setting a tricky 205 on a tricky pitch.

Quick wickets were needed to keep pressure on the Masters. Thomas combined with his captain to share the openers. A shaky 26-2 became 92-4 when Wilson got Inzamam (31) edging to slip. The Colts nicked out two more wickets to leave the visitors 75 short with 4 wickets in hand. But Lara stuck around and ground out a half-century under pressure. He added 51 with Streak and was ultimately caught by Thomas, hooking on 59. CW Colts fielded with vigor and preciseness, attempting to maintain pressure but struggling to threaten with the ball. Shane Warne was allowed to assist Streak with few problems in a winning partnership of 24.

Cricket Web Black v Cricket Web Red
Pickford Reserve

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Cricket Web Red captain Håkon Mork made a sporting declaration, but Cricket Web Black spiritedly chased down a challenging target at greater than 5 per over with 9 wickets intact. Mork left the Blacks a target of 206 in 40 overs, and the game went down to the final over in front of an engrossed audience.

First up on a flat pitch, the CW Red middle order collapsed to the fast bowling of Nath Patrick. In the absence of the injured Rob Dauth, Kenny Dobson scored 85 at number three and put on 137 with David Kearsley (59) for the third wicket. But after Kearsley picked out mid-on with a leading edge, Patrick pushed on to tear through the order. The Reds slumped to 213-8 and the decision of Dan Smith to bowl looked justified. However, as he has often this season, Kingsley Clapham was a willing partner to Sean Bennett in resistance. Between the two, three catches were dropped, allowing a partnership of 95 to take place.

Clapham moved on to a half-century and 51, but ultimately failed to clear mid-off with a lofted drive. He left Bennett at the crease, and the spinner closed in on a first-class ton, but struggled to progress through the 90s. Only 3 runs came from his last 22 balls, then Bennett edged Patrick to the lone slip. Patrick ended with 6 for 87 and the Reds were all out for 376. The Black response was oozing confidence, yet rife with loose batting. Smith had to hold things together with another big hundred. In a 428-ball stay he amassed 157, though he found no consistent support. In the end he played a tired swipe on the afternoon of day four, caught behind off Bennett. His was the penultimate wicket, as CW Black surrendered a lead of 15 runs to the Reds.

The Reds looked confident with their slim lead. The openers added 80, powered by Aseem Sharma's chancy 58. When Dave Richards came on he inspired some indecisiveness and then removed Sharma to a bat-pad catch. Mork was left to hold things together while the CW Red middle order collapsed for the second time in the game. Borcich took 3 wickets in the slide, and Mork was unbeaten on 68 when he called the innings to a close. The display of sportsmanship kept the crowd interested and gave the Reds a chance of victory on a pitch with inconsistent bounce.

But Ash Arnold stated an aggressive gameplan with some authority. While Smith anchored the innings, Arnold launched into attack and scored 45 off 31 balls before tea. In the final session the Blacks still required 140 runs. The attack continued after tea with both batsmen crossing 50. Smith was bowled by Bennett in the final hour and Andrew Cloete went to the middle with a one-day situation at hand. CW Black required 59 from 52 balls and were faced with defensive field settings and bowling tactics. But there was little the Reds could do. The batsmen hurried for singles and found the boundary when required. Arnold hit Bennett for a fourth six of his innings, then hit Clapham for two boundaries to bring his best hundred to date. He punched the air and then dropped to his knees, but quickly resumed his stance with the end in sight. A missed leg glance by Cloete saw the ball race for four legbyes and the close game drew closer.

CW Black still needed 7 runs heading into the final over. And Cloete played hero against Clapham by swinging a slower ball over midwicket for six. The scores were level when Cloete ended the game in style, stepping down the pitch and pumping the ball back past the bowler for four. CW Black won the game with 2 balls remaining.

Updated Table after Round 18.

Code:
Team	Played	Won	Lost	Drawn	Tied	Bat	Bowl	Points
Black	18	9	2	7	0	69	48	271
Blue	18	8	6	4	0	52	49	229
Colts	18	7	5	6	0	52	43	217
Red	18	5	8	5	0	27	44	161
Green	18	3	10	5	0	33	45	140
Masters XI would have 208 points if they counted.

With only two games left, it's impossible for Black to finish second. Second place is solely between Blue and Colts with only 12 points separating the two. They play each other next round

Ugh... The declaration was needed, but they chased that target way too easily :( Our middle order really needs to stand up, with no Rob in the side especially. Heads up lads we can still make the final in OD (i believe, any tables?).

Happy with a 50 odd and a couple of wickets, seems my part timers have came in handy a few times this year.
