Averaging 30 (like marnus for the past 2 years and zack crawley and ollie pope throughout their careers) is bad but you know what's worse? Averaging 10

Except on recent form marnus isn't a 46 average bat? Teams are bowling wider to him, he's getting squared up a ton by back of a length balls and/or edging fuller balls he should be leaving. We've tried letting him figure out his issues with the wide stuff in tests and its not worked. He's so shot right now that even div 2 county bowlers are getting him out that way cheaply that way.

Marnus needs a full shield stint and county season away from the national team to figure his stuff out. I still think he's capable of an Usman style turnaround, but that's not going to happen in tests.

I don't think he does tbh. He knows how to score test runs

I do agree that he needs runs and a couple of good knocks would be enough for me

zak crawley is woeful tbc so it’s not like “he’s averaging as much as zak crawley” is a very good argument in his favour (although i get you’re saying that he’s out of form but others are worse too)

he doesn’t have an average against Cummins because captain wanker hides at second change when Zak is batting
