Bess hasn't been terrible and his stats would look much better had we picked a decent keeper but you have to think his batting this summer has kept him in the side.

Credit for that decision; Stokes being unable to operate as a full time part of the attack doesn't mean he shouldn't bowl at all. But the other criticisms about over-bowling Bess are still valid, of course.

Re: Bess it's the third day on a track which is clearly turning and bouncing. Given that we criticised him a few weeks ago for underbowling Bess in a not-dissimilar situation, you can surely understand him bowling 10-odd overs here. It's ultimately on Bess to not bowl as crap as he did this evening.
