Here's those averages Hurricane. I'll repost it in the domestic thread at a later date if anyone cares.

Comparing pure first class records (excluding test match runs) to test records, here is what we get for middle order batsmen (with a few good opener examples thrown in) from the last ten or so years. I can’t be ****ed doing county averages.

Player/FC average/ FC matches/test average

Mathew Sinclair: 52.67 (89) 32.05
Peter Fulton: 47.72 (58) 20.93
Kane Williamson: 46.06 (20) --.--
Jesse Ryder: 43.86 (38) 49.88
Ross Taylor: 40.83 (35) 43.13
Stephen Fleming: 42.75 (35) 40.06
Nathan Astle: 37.07 (32) 37.02
Mark Richardson: 37.82 (83) 44.77
Lou Vincent: 38.07 (40) 34.15
Craig McMillan: 41.64 (40) 38.46
Martin Guptill: 26.48 (19) 35.36
Daniel Flynn: 33.86 (30) 28.70

Now Fleming, Taylor and Ryder all made those runs early in their careers. Fleming in his prime averaged 52 in county cricket.

Where do you get all your FC stats from? I didn't know you could separate County matches from NZ domestic matches anywhere...

Go to cricketarchive.com, then search for your player, go to detailed stats and results, and then do averages by team.

Touching wood something massive here (:naughty:), but would love to see Kane get to triple figures before stumps, as starting the next day on debut in the 80s or 90s would be pretty damn tough. Making it through to stumps much more important though, obv.

Awesome.

Player/FC average/ FC matches/test average

Mathew Sinclair: 52.67 (89) 32.05 - should have done better in test matches
Peter Fulton: 47.72 (58) 20.93
Kane Williamson: 46.06 (20) --.--
Jesse Ryder: 43.86 (38) 49.88 - I reckon he will come back a bit towards 45 as a test average
Ross Taylor: 40.83 (35) 43.13 - close
Stephen Fleming: 42.75 (35) 40.06 - close
Nathan Astle: 37.07 (32) 37.02 - remarkably close.
Mark Richardson: 37.82 (83) 44.77 - good improvement but didn't he start slowly in FC
Lou Vincent: 38.07 (40) 34.15
Craig McMillan: 41.64 (40) 38.46
Martin Guptill: 26.48 (19) 35.36 - His average excluding Bangers is 23
Daniel Flynn: 33.86 (30) 28.70 - close

Yeah remarkably good predictor of test match success. With the couple of exceptions that have puzzled everyone (sinclair etc)

Richardson started at Otago iirc and actually averages 39 for them as opposed to 35 for Auckland.

Wondering if this was my old Geography teacher on cricinfo. Gun club left arm seamer too.

Mark Wales: "I have confidence that New Zealand could pull off one of the greatest victories of all time. Get 600, bowl india out for 134. Never dare to dream. It can Happen"
