That's because they've barely used the 5th bowler and they have a World class all-rounder and the World's best fast bowler who can bowl plenty of overs. This set of circumstances is pretty rare.
I wouldn't say the 5th bowler rarely bowls to be honest.

Well I said barely not rarely, but sure sometimes the 5th bowler bowled a lot because of Flintoff's wear and tear injury. But the pattern has usually been 3/4 bowlers taking up the bulk of the work.

Yeah, I know he's not that bad, but he isn't that good either. Just because he's from Queensland doesn't mean we have to be blind (we are not N.S.Welshman who think that every player from the state side to the u/12 should play test cricket).
Yes but to put him in the Blues team - I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy. :p

Yet Richardson had already pumelled Bangladesh in his first 2 Tests against them.
I meant the tests in Bangladesh, where there were slow pitches and a lot of slow bowling. Anyway, the point is, where the hell have people seen this "glaring weakness" in Marshall?

Marshall's own domestic form shows he struggles when there is no pace to work with - someone noted that the majority of his domestic dismissals are v spin / slow bowlers...............and not just his form in BAN but also v MacGill in the warm up game v NSW, on what is the traditional slow wicket in OZ.....

If you went solely on his domestic form, he probably shouldn't be playing any sort of international cricket. I think he's proved he's good enough for ODIs. In my opinion, he should be in the test team as well. I think you should wait awhile before labelling him as poor against slow bowling. If you think there's something about his technique that makes him vulnerable to spin then that's a different matter altogether. Is there something you've noticed?

And as for that match against NSW, MacGill picked up 8 wickets at about 13 runs apiece. That suggests that Marshall wasn't the only one who had a problem with him.

NZ is a much better ODI team than test (that isn't saying much really, is it?), so I think we have more chance of winning in ODIs than tests. We only need to play 1 good day of cricket. So I think we do have a chance. But that is quite likely just blind optimism.

There is a chance they will concede the most runs ever in a ODI.

It is that kid of attitude that could trip aussie up... although i highly doubt it. It is interesting to note that NZ has a better record than australia in ODI's for the calender year, in fact they have the best in the world. Also last time NZ played aussie in aussie they won three out of the four matches against them when they were rank outsiders. Australia didn't even make the final of their own competition that year ( NZ v.s S.A ). The Aussie comentators were classic to listen to when NZ beat Aussie. I am not saying that i expect a repeat performance just that it is not out of the question and they proved last time that it is possible... In saying that it is highly likely Aussie will wipe the floor with the Kiwis and win 3-0

16W, 2L, 2NR in last 20 ODIs for NZ. That included thrashing SA, ENG, WI, & PAK. Of course one of the losses was against AUS. Still, NZ will be at great odds at the TAB.

Cairns and Adams should help the bowling significantly, IMO.

Australia have batted well lately and with Symonds FC form I expect lots of runs. NZ will bat well but I cant see the bowling putting enough pressure on Aust long batting list. My tip: Hayden to really fire, look out Shoiab (VB series)

Yeah, Adams can be brilliant sometimes. But he can be really awful sometimes too, hope he is at his best rather than his worst.

i can't see adams making an impact with the ball,

Adams Bowling at Home,
23 wickets@18.95, RPO:4.58, B/B:5/22

Adams Bowling Away from Home,
21 wickets@39.29, RPO:5.48, B/B:4/44

Adams Bowling in Australia,
4 wickets@43.50, RPO:4.83, B/B:2/33

Adams Bowling in his last 9 ODI's,
6 wickets@69.17, RPO:6.23, B/B:1/14

IMO Ponting's Captaincy has already added another dimension to this AUS juggernaut. Fleming remarked on it at the begining of this series - the AUS preparedness & being 'on' their game..............

in the past the AUS arrogance / swagger at times left them vulnerable to a smash & grab defeat - however it would now appear that this is no longer the case..........

similarly Ponting's field placings are not as all out attacking as under Waugh, and are a bit more evenly balanced...........
