It is kind of funny to think that if some unknown Cricinfo trainee got the go-ahead to add his privately collated Sunfoil Series averages to Cricinfo profile pages, it would've thrown this huge spanner in the works of Conway's real-life career, probably Muller's too.

Generally speaking though, the likes of Henry Walsh and Raki Weerasundara can't really cry foul, from what I've seen. 'Muh dodgy club pitches' is heard far too often from aspiring bats in Wellington cricket. The problem is they continue failing to make any impression on the stats charts over in the UK or in the new NZ town they move to.

A few of them, when pressed, will confide to you they feel they're already doing their dads this big favour just by dedicating so much time to a stuffy and dawdling sport like cricket, one that carries minimal cachet with the modern New Zealand teenage/twentysomething female. They therefore spiral into this restive mentality of wanting opportunities to arise and seas to part for them very rapidly, and they play like it.

Absolute poppy ****, the juggernaut of Wellington cricket is chocka full of homegrown youthful talents.

I'd like it to be chocka full of Ravindra and faithful with him, even if he has a dodgy maiden season against lateral movement in FC. That guy's been more or less faultlessly committed to carving out a life for himself in pro cricket, despite not being a naturally gifted fielder, etc..

A childhood of slow and puggy Wellington pitches mixed with thousands of hours of on-the-up cover drives against indoor bowling machines on weekdays...it's sort of a recipe for the batting equivalent of a schizophrenic. I wouldn't be too alarmed if he's not an instantly amazing Firebirds top-order man. It may take a little time.

Nah SteveNZ loves Auckland's batting pipeline. It's the bowling that keeps him up at night.

Barnes ball to Taylor looks like a brute! How is this guy bowling 2nd change in that line up..

Worker deserves one day selection, his test call up was surprising, but considering his runs scored in the past few seasons it's understandable why. Handy 6th bowler too.

Anyone else think Cricinfo's website is to clever for it's own good, and is rubbish to use?

Yes, it was better about 6 years ago, then they tried to make it look like the other ESPN sites and it became a nightmare.

They removed live career averages for players that aren't currently batting/bowling as well. Now you have to go to the "career statistics" drop-down on a player's page and use statguru-fu.

You can verify from your sources and confirm it's not the Auckland but the ND, CD, Caterbury all want Ravindra. A chancy chat with one of his coaches and he revealed but for Ravindra's love for the club/wellington/school he would have been poached already. Remember the coaches in the U19 are all Canterbury folks and you wouldn't think they would have tried to get him over. There is a bit of ND influence there as well. None from Wellington in the national set up sadly.

Ravindra's bowling is as highly rated as his batting, which province wouldn't want to have him in the side? He's always going to perform in the long run. If Wellington doesn't get him on a contract next year full time we'll lose him. Unfortunately Firebirds are busy recruiting players from all over the place.

That is sad, why are they playing for their Dads? I can understand there isn't much in it in cricket unless you make it to BC but if you like it so much why not give it your best shot? I glanced at the club scene and Weerasundara is going well by the looks of it. What about Andrew Fletcher? He's been around for ages and not a bad bat. There are many bowlers that Firebirds could have tried over the years. Jamie Siddons recruited grade players from Aussie for first class honours here and Bruce Edgar is going international too. No wonder there's no passion for Firebirds in town.

Add to that, they got rid of Papps and they got Hamish Marshall playing... Good on Jeets for moving on from Ford trophy. That has made way for Younghusband. Otherwise another lad on the sidelines waiting for eternity.

yeah wellington really died under stuart and siddons who probably wanted to quickly use the province as a springboard to a national role somewhere, and brought in attempted instant gratification players from Australia under the assumption playing some Outback 2nd XI grade cricket prepares you for the very strange but loveable competition that is the Plunket Shield, where Colin Munro and Neil Wagner were always waiting for their newest whole hearted battler victims.

Munro with 174*(118) batting trough the innings for the win against Canterbury. That's a pummeling.

True. I think we'll see bowling imports become par for the course in AKL, although Lister looks like a good un. Luring Barnes back would be something they'll be keen to do as well.
