I see your old HIBS captain Troy Johnson's continued booming it after some handy little knocks for Wellington A in Taupo, nzfan.

A dream run of flat decks or tiny postage stamp venues for Hutt District must've been a bit of a factor though, if Deepak Joon's riding high with a 120 SR.

Rutherford certainly didn't think so. And Rob Nicol was none too pleased to be given out either. Is it just me, or is the level of dissent been shown by the batsmen getting a bit out of hand this season?

Rutherfords looked to be a wrongun missing off stump when you stop the video on impact too me. The danger of batting outside off.

Nicol was a desperate buy by Otago, hopefully he can get some runs for them.

Yeah very happy for the Hutt district lads. A very young side barring Deepak Joon. Spent the Saturday watching the Hutt boys by the sidelines and was glad to be there at I got to watch Ravindra bat for couple of hours. Johnson and Joon also batted well.

From your posts in the past I thought Ravindra was a solid but measured batsman like the blokes from the 90s. I had it wrong, he just blazes it. Saw him smoke a short ball about 100 meters effortlessly. Barely defends a ball and a bloody good player of spin. Mark my words he's going to come out being one of the best players of spin. Saw him sweep, dance down the track, pick singles at will. Didn't watch him bowl but I hear his bowling is equally good if not better.

Saturday well spent, now I'm going to follow him around watching lol

Don't want to over hype Ravindra he's still very young but hard not to. You'll know what I mean if you watch him and like purity in batting. He makes it look effortless.

Johnson was always good, just lost a bit of form around the 19s and for about a year or two. Good accumulator of runs and a good leader. There are some good cricketers in that Hutt side. Here's hoping some of their lads get to play As and firebirds. It's long overdue.

Yeah that's about the fifth dismissal I can think of with the batsman noticeably angry. Some of the umpiring probably is pretty frustrating tbf.

Otago will probably lose today (44 more needed with 2 wickets in hand) because they refuse to bat Kitchen higher than 7 and he could be stranded here. It's very very strange when he was one of the top scorers last season. Occasionally they need to fit Neesham into the middle order for NZ development purposes, but there are no other good reasons. Nicol is one of a few that could bat lower or be left out.

9 wickets in the match for Sodhi then. Good to see him make a statement like that after being left out of the A team for Tastle.

Tom Blundell locked in I suppose? Great for him to debut at the ground he knows like bank of the hand. I think he'll go well, he's a pretty calm and well grounded bloke I hear. Not my type of player but he's pretty effective.

Yep the memo from Rob Walter to Kitchen seems to have been "just maintain the mentality of the dangerous shorter formats ballstriker you are. Keep pressing onto your good front foot against the older ball and swing for the fences."

Yeah although I'm still not too keen on asking a trio of de Boorder, Craig and Nathan Smith to comprise my engine room for me on slow Kakanui pitches though, trying to get a good burn going from say overs 50-100. I can see an eccentricity to Kitchen at 7 that would get a chess notation of '!?' out of me, rather than a '??'.

If Walter's as good a coach as some of the South African players claim, we can expect he won't be repeating Otago's dud recruiting of Nicol and Hicks, which they did without him. I know Conway tended to thrive the most in Gauteng when he was on a slow and dry surface. Maybe there's some other forgotten SA schoolboy star that only Walter would know is interested in a NZ career.

Just a quick post to celebrate Patumahoe clay and 'Wellington' bounce bowlers. It's threatening to be kind of dry in New Zealand this summer, so the last five FC rounds could be more of a Tastle or Blake Coburn bonanza.

Canterbury you'd think would have the best line on coaxing Stokes for some game time, but wonder if anyone else will be able to nab him?

How do you even nab Ben Stokes for like a single match before he pisses off to play the Ashes? Is this not odd?

Harsh Visavidiya, on a John Wright Scholarship to the Southern Institute of Technology, has been dominating for Otago A.

Visavidiya highlighted he was a free-flowing batsman but wasn't rash in his shot selection, Miles said.

So could Visavidiya be a potential option for the Volts in the future?

"Absolutely. Anyone who can deliver at this level will certainly be looked at," Miles said.

Visavidiya arrived in Invercargill from India in 2015 to study at the Southern Institute of Technology on a John Wright Scholarship.

He made an immediate impact in club cricket racking up five centuries in a short space of time.

Injury ruined his chances last season but has quickly made a mark this season.

Just last weekend he scored 105 from 65 balls against Southland Boys' High School playing for Invercargill-Old Boys.

On top of his batting abilities, Visavidiya also provides a handy bowling option with his wrist spinners where he took 1-31 from seven overs against Canterbury A.

Just had a go at putting together a Plunket Shield tournament team given we're at the mid point. Some pretty lean picking on the batting front. So much so I've put Seifert in as a specialist bat and Cleaver as keeper. Only batsman doing anything that could even consider them selves a chance for the Blackcaps is Rutherford and that's only because he'll likely get another ride on the openers merry go round at some point. Was even tempted to include Phillips even though he's only played twice.
1. Rutherford
2. Papps
3. Hay
4. Schmulian
5. Ryder
6. Seifert
7. Cleaver
8. Van Beek
9. A.Patel
10 Ferguson
11. Bennett

Nice try Ghost, but unfortunately Ryder's refusing to play for your XI now, because you overlooked a great mate of his, one who's also been trying his best to make NZC's talent pathways look a bit malnourished, authoritarian and stink.

Averaging 80 with the bat and 25 with the ball -

"Hey there's a spot in our lineup we had to leave out a batsman cos he punched someone, oh wait.."
Haha yeah...best to be a big name if you're going to take a swing at someone, Ken.

It is a different situation, granted, given McClure has pleaded guilty and Stokes has not. However, we've all seen the footage of Stokes clearly assaulting someone. Maybe Canterbury could've got away with it in another situation but replacing a guy for assault with a guy who's clearly assaulted someone is pretty laughable. Having said that, no one gives a **** about the Ford Trophy and Canterbury's 'brand' won't take much of a hit over the hypocrisy so they'll probably go ahead and do it.
