Will Young's 61 doesn't look so bad now noone else has passed 35 in two innings. Though I don't think you could blame a green seamer when you're collapsing to Ajaz Patel's straight breaks.

That is why I can't take Munro seriously, he should be batting at three or four if he's a serious test prospect, not hiding down the order at six or seven. Bracewell batted higher up the order ffs

But you know Colin didn't ask to bat at 7, right? I agree with the premise, that a guy with a FC average of 48 (is it closer to 50 after this knock?) two double tons, 10 tons overall from memory now shouldnt be at 7 below Sean Solia and Mark Chapman. Mark O'Donnell is a guy who would happily promote his own interests over those of Colin and the national side, however. I can see no other reason why Colin batted at 4 in the last Plunket Shield game after a long layoff for injury and brief appearances last year, but batted 7 today. Weird. And he absolutely slapped the guy who took 8-for. Not exactly playing like a Test #5 should/would do, but Colin is a team guy.

Speaking of Solia, there's a guy who worked his arse off to get to where he is today. Solid if unspectacular cricketer at club level for years, but knew if he worked harder than other guys - and there are **** all guys below the ones gifted opportunities after NZ U19 representation who do so - that he'd get there. Good story that I hope only gets better.

i still don't get why robbie o'donnell opened and former test opener never4get rob nicol was at #3. they swapped spots for no real reason.

Weird batting line-up, no question. You'd have to had better luck picking the powerball numbers.

Sure bloody did. I used to train with him a lot with his father giving us hours of practise on bowling machines from a young age (his father really did push him hard). His bowling developed late where he only really took his bowling seriously when he started to get a bit of pace at around 17-18 as he was always an opening bat coming through the age grades and bowled leg spin before reverting to pace.

Funnily enough on his short commentary stint, and between being lectured by Doully on how LBW reviews should be decided by the bowlers, Shane Jurgensen mentioned Jamieson as a "work in progress but exciting prospect."

It's not surprising with us missing so many players and Kuggs going down injured during the match but we are getting punished. I guess on the bright side it's down to my two boi's from that part of the country in Bruce and Cleaver doing the damage.

I'd be shocked if Bruce doesn't play for NZ this summer.

Looking at Jamieson's action, he's going to struggle unless he changes that.

He's not maximizing his height, he's not bowling hard into the wicket due to falling over in his delivery stride and has a lot of issues with rhythm/flow through the crease.

i'm eyeing kuggs sideways like most people but from a quality pov him getting injured is really annoying. domestix needs all the near-international players it can get and after his dire beginnings as a FC player he's up there now.

Agree somewhat, though hard to see that he could change that lumbering style entirely, as you'd need phenomenal muscles to accelerate those long heavy limbs through the crease like a shorter whippier physique (or if you're extremely blessed, a similarly tall but whippy physique like Ambrose).

Despite that, still think he should be able to get up to 135km/h with a bit of work, maybe 140.

I don't expect him to have the explosion through the crease of some of the more agile smaller folk, but he's just got a bunch of unneccessary motion and his follow through really falls off meaning his potential for bounce is reduced, not to mention that his pace is coming largely through strength in the shoulder rather than rhythm.

He needs to work with someone like Brent Arnel who can break it down for him.

We need to develop a right arm in-swing bowler, ASAP...

In NZ conditions, bringing it back into the right hander as a right hand bowler has always been lethal (Bond, Martin, O'Brien) and would be a true difference maker to the left armers we've got doing the same thing from their over the wicket angle.

If redtube isn't working for anyone during the Adelaide Test dinner break, queue up the video of Cleaver hitting Mitchell for six today. Weeoooow.

Likely New Zealand squad: Kane Williamson (captain), Tom Latham, Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Colin Munro, Colin de Grandhomme, Jimmy Neesham, BJ Watling, Mitchell Santner, Todd Astle, Tim Southee, Matt Henry, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson.

Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson set to be unleashed on Australia in Chappell-Hadlee series | Stuff.co.nz

Not a bad article. Would be happy with that squad, however, I believe Anderson is a far better bat than Nicholl's. He scored a hundy last week, although he isn't playing this match, so hopefully it's a niggle.. Also Astle would be hard to swallow, can't seeing him doing much except being tonked over there.

Fingers crossed for Fergo over Bracewell.
