Yeah, Rikki Swannell. A regular on Radio Sport. I don't think cricket is her specialty, but kudos for the versatility.
I vaguely remember hearing her a bit during the Olympics I think? Voice is familiar.

Agree about the chick commentator actually. Normally they roll out some pretty ordinary ones for token purposes, but she was genuinely pretty sharp.

Ah right, it's Rikki Swannell. She's a gun. Gets all her work on ability only, not simply by being a woman or a tittied blonde etc. She's what women in the media should be.

Incidentally, Auckland looks like a pretty handy T20 unit again by NZ standards, don't they.

they've always been pretty damn good. guptill, some colins, mitch m, grobbelaar yorkers and they used to have mills (good for domestix death bowling and champions league) and andre adams

Having Tymal Mills helps. I was skeptical during his first over but he's pretty gun. Ferguson bowled really well too, and Nethula - after getting some tap for first two balls - was exemplary. Throw in Mitch M and de Grandhomme and you have a well rounded attack.

What's up with the speed radar on these games? Pretty sure it's about 5-10kms off. Even more in some matches.

Jeez Rutherford played some classy strokes in that first 6 overs vs. Boult and Southee didn't he. Reminder of what a natural stroke-maker he is, shame about his temperament.

Went to the Auckland game today. CdG's innings was unbelievable - the game was in the balance, but then he turned it into an easy chase. The 30-run over was spectacular - four sixes, including one that he heaved over the West Stand and into the number one ground.

Ouch, one over for 30. Seems most of the players back from Australia are finding runs fairly easy to come by all of a sudden!

Also, wonder if that will be enough to get Bruce a spot in the T20I squad. Should debut someone imo and Seifert hasn't quite been impressive enough to displace Ronchi yet, while Bruce has a little more track record over Chapman.

Not a bad time for Rutherford and M. Bracewell to remind everyone they exist too.

would definitely be nice to look for some specialist batsman depth in the short forms rather than rely on just allrounder spam for squad depth

I've watched a hell of a lot of them over the years under Mark O'Donnell...they often look better drilled and prepared than the national side. He's a weird, sort of surly bastard, O'Donnell, but I reckon with the right support staff and management he'd be a great national coach. You look at the way Auckland go about it, they always look like they have a plan and a way of going about things.

I reckon it should be enough to get Bruce an NZ gig in the T20s. The real heat comes on when people are mentioning you for higher honours, a lot of people turn to water under that pressure. But against a decent attack, he's gone out and added another score to his season.

The under 19 tournament is underway in Lincoln. Auckland look strong with Finn Allen & Dale Phillips. Leopard is batting 4 for CD. Nathan Smith, Hunter Kindley & Max Chu are touted as the stand-outs for Otago.

I seem to have totally missed the Gillette Cup. Looking at the final stats Kindley, who is part of the Volt's training squad, was 4th highest run-scorer and 4th highest wicket taker. Finn Allen 5th highest run-scorer & 10th on the wickets list.

I wouldn't mind a video of Sandeep Patel, if nzfan comes back into the thread shortly.

The unlikely combination of heady batting and the maroon kit is what you get from Sandeep, by one report. Not that I can ever trust ND intel, until I actually see the player for myself.

Finn Allen is a bonafide gun. He'll be pushing for an Auckland spot in a couple of seasons.

Wonder if the Ben Donkers from Canterbury is the son of Brendon Donkers, presume so. One of my favourite names of the 90s in the Canterbury side, along with Brad Doody.

Sounds promising, he topped the Gillette run-scoring. Another decent opener coming through would be good. ND's number 3 batsman sounds useful with the ball too:

After Russell removed the openers, Katene Clarke came into the attack in the 5th over and blitzed through the strong King’s middle order to have them 5 down for 48 runs in the 14th over with his blistering pace and magnificent control...

This was a disappointing climax to the one-day season as King’s was the form team going into this encounter, but when a bowler like Clarke is on song, even the best batting line-ups in this competition will struggle.
