This is why I think Vettori could potentially be more succesful with New Zealand's current attack. In the days of Martin and Arnel, opposition batsmen knew they just had to sit on Vettori and could then nurdle around the other bowlers. But with New Zealand now sporting 2 (and if Wagner continues his recent improvement, maybe even 3) genuine test class seamers opposition batsmen will be forced to take more risks against Vettori to get runs.
Someone probably knows this, but is Vettori's record better when Bond played? probably not a big enough sample size.

TBH, even if Vettori isn't a significant wicket taking threat his ability to get through the old ball overs with minimum runs scored is a massive addition to the attack.

Yes true, and even if he doesn't take wickets, dots would actually be useful in that context while Southee and Boult have a rest. (edit: as Hendrix beat me to saying)

Still doubtful that Vettori will play another test though.

Vettori averages considerably less when bowling with Bond in the team.

and wac, gets Young out.

yeah, suspected that might be the case.

Vettori: 2 overs, 2 maidens, 1 wicket, no runs.

Also, those first innings runs of his are looking more and more impressive.

The Wilson and Vettori 70s are killing us here. Their innings have been the difference between the two sides batting fortunes so far.

This better not make Wilson a PONI.

what. He's playing first class cricket. He's surely going to be in contention for the India tour.
Because he's getting on and has a chronic injury that will always hamper him at the very least (perhaps meaning he's fit to play domestic but not worth the risk in a test), and there is always the risk of other niggles too. Injury risk prior to India series >50% imo.

Some pretty impressive tail-cleaning from Boult to end with a 5-for. Possible he found some reverse?

Boult-Southee-Vettori is just a ridiculously good attack for first class level. CD never stood a chance really.

I'm a bit worried about Sodhi's lack of bowling opportunities. At this rate, he's going be completely cold going into the 1st test.

Yeah, but it's still a fairly questionable tactic given that Boult and Southee have already bowled 13 overs today, and we're not even halfway through. They're going to be well and truly exhausted by the end of it.

Is the plan for every one of our top 6 test batsmen to go into the Windies series without any runs at all behind them?

If so we are executing well, Rutherford excepted. Taylor duck now to Boult.

i dont know whether to be happy at Southee+Boult bowling so well or depressed at nearly every test batsmen capitulating

Vettori has come out and said that he will play for the Heat for all of their round robin games which spans from the 20 Dec-27 Jan

This means that he is effectively ruled himself out of the India ODI series as last game of the series is on 31st Jan.

So maybe a comeback for the tests which start on the 6th of Feb giving him either a PS or the NZA game to prep for it.
