Four Aussies ... Watch out for Sanz now. I'd be careful if I were you.
Do you seriously reckon that Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee arent two of the best ODI bowlers at the moment?

Ponting picks himself, and it was a toss up between Gilchrist and Kallise.

Bond and Rana to open the bowling
for me i'd move Dravid to 3 and Tendulkar to 4
hmmmm i can see only one minor flaw
only 4 proper bowlers(ie.in ICC they would have a cricket ball next to there name)
Bond Murali Rana Flintoff
i suppose Gayle and Tendulkar maybe Pieterson could spread out the other ten overs
Thoughts???
Whts RANA doing in this lineup? Its worldXI not pakistan Eleven. Remeber how he struggled against indian batsmen in the home series. He was the weakest link in the pakistani lineup.
Md Asif and Umar Gul looked much more promising

Controversial to include two wicket keepers, but both are good enough to make it as bats alone. Bats down to 10, Bond, Pollock, Vettori, Flintoff, Pathan, Kallis, Afridi is a formidable bowling attack.

well is this a world XI team that will play against the Aussies????
neways no body can take away the opening slot from tendulkar. Wicketkeeper has to be dhoni who will bat in the middle order.
Shane bond can play in any team. My pick would be Md Asif as the second seamer. Pollock the third and why not Rameh Powar as the spinner who can bat better than any spinner in the world. Pietersen and Flintoff at no 3 and 6. Second opener can be gibbs or gayle. although i always consider Gayle as a gamble.
so the team is
Tendulkar
Gibbs
Pietersen
Yuvraj
Kallis
Flintoff
Dhoni
Bond
Md Asif
Pollock
Powar

Given the title of the thread, i would have thought it's just a World XI, not an Xi to take on the Aussies

I think its correct that most people here haven't put Kallis on their lists. I like Kallis and think he's the most technically beautiful batsman in the world. His innings against England in 2004/05 were some of the most graceful batting I've seen in the past few years. Howvever, in ODI's I think he's far less great. So many times I've seen South Africa needing to push on, yet Kallis remains himself and stays tentative.

If I had to compare him to somebody it would be Simon Katich. Somebody who can make runs, but can be a hindrance to his team since he doesn't score enough. The main times guys like that are great in their teams are when their team is in trouble and they need a somebody solid making runs.

I am, however, shocked that so few people are listing the great Murali! Granted against Australia he's had his problems, but he's such a great thinker when it comes to cutting off runs.

I think the names that are just plain obvious are...

MS Dhoni
The most entertaining player from India right now. Great entertainer and can make great runs. This has nothing to do with how he's done against England, but I have a feeling if he performs well at the world cup, India are in with a shot. Again, nothing to do with England, but I think India are a real go at the world cup. Perhaps not as obvious as some might think, especially with Sangakara. But on batting alone he should be in there. I liked the lad who put Sangakara and Dhoni on the same team. Good thinking that since Dhoni can really suck behind the stumps.

Kevin Pietersen
You can say what you want about Pietersen in test matches, and a lot of it may be true, but in the ODI arena he's amazing. He's more likely to make overs 50 runs than make less than that. Has no fear which is a great quality and actually reads one-day situations quite nicely. Just one of those people who seem to understand one-dayers better than tests.

Andrew Flintoff
There's just too much I could say about him. What a top bloke! Do I really need to explain why he's so obvious.

Muttiah Muralitharan
Where's the Murali love? He's a legend.

Shaun Pollock
He's a legend too. People here cream over Kallis, and I understand why. But Pollock is the better great. If you had to pick one player from SA currently to play for your team, it would be him. Bowled without luck against Australia if you ask me. Got the ball to seam a lot too, jagging all areas etc. His batting is golden as well. Genuine all-rounder and really you just can't have enough of them in ODI's.

There were a few guys who were near certain picks... but really that slightest doubt against them eliminated them from my mind, so don't get too sensitive. If you were to include Australia in there then Ponting, Symonds, Hussey and maybe Lee would be in there. Lee rocked last year, but was terrible in South Africa.

You wouldn't call Sangakarra and Flintoff big hitters?
Anyway, Pieterson replaces Ul-Haq at number 6, a good ODI batsman who i think can also offer a bit with the ball

Just going to explain my selections:
Tendulkar - one of the greatest ODI batsmen. Capable of high scores
Dravid - solid opener. Indian combination
Sangakarra - good glovesmen. Adapts well to situations and plays well against theAussies.
Lara - explosive. On his day, no better batsmen in the world.
Kallis - even though he scores slowlyhe is reliable to score some runs.
Pieterson - can tear oppositions in half. Big hitter.
Flintoff - best allrounder at the moment.
Pollock - economical with the ball, explosive with the bat. People often say that McGrath is the tightest bowler in cricket but Pollock has a lower economy rate. Often underestimated with the bat. One of the biggest hitters in world cricket.
Vettori - economical. Stats don't show how good he is with the ball. Capable of fifties.
Bond - tearaway bowler. Unlucky with injuries
Murali - wicketaking spinster. Record speaks for itself.

Team bats down to 9.
6 bowling options.

Point is Akmal is a better wicketkeeper than both Dhoni and Sangakkara. I want a Wicket Keeper first and then a batsman and it's not like he can hold a bat. He actually bats pretty well as well.
Oooh, a controversial view there - picking the better keeper!

Unfortunately it doens't happen enough any more.

I too would also play Sanga and Dhoni. I reckon their batting alone easily puts them in the top 7 best ODI batsman outside Australia.

My ROW ODI XI to take on the Aussies:

Sachin Tendulkar
Kumar Sangakkara (wk)
Rahul Dravid
Kevin Pietersen
Yuvraj Singh
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Andrew Flintoff
Shaun Pollock
Daniel Vettori
Shane Bond
Muttiah Muralitharan

12th Man: Pathan

Wonder where your from ? 4 Englishmen in the team when England are rubbish at oneday cricket. Admittedly Flintoff's a dead cert and Pietersen a possibility, but the other two are a joke
