surely starc gets benched until he's fit? if that meltdown was injury induced then that's ben wheeler levels of sending a man to the wolves.

tearing up a bit here but also a beaming smile...rollercoaster ride

yeah we have a lot to work on when facing aussie in the long forms but very proud of our nz boys, they did not lay down this time meekly

had we rolled over here for 100 or 200 odd i'd say our confidence would be shattered, even question our semi final place...but not now, we'll make it :')

always had a soft spot for neesh and talked him up when he's been criticized (which is fine) and sometimes berated but neesh, the no.7 spot is yours....said it before i'll say it again, in these brain gripping pressure crippling situations, he's the first 1 on my team sheet

thnx every1 for tuning in, feel like our guys have actually grown a lot from this...what a fight

Not Terrible
Our fielding and Henry's bowling cost us the game.

Aussie will probably want to look at their middle orders ability to kick off and Starc probably needs to be dropped. Rest of their bowling was decent and their top order is absolutely phenomenal right now.

Whoever's posting about the underarm that happened literally 40 years ago should have a lie down imo
agreed, be talking about 8 ball overs, timeless Tests, getting boats to Oz and WG Grace next

be more relevant to talk of claiming grounded catches, sandpaper and all sorts

Even though they shot out to a healthy 7 and over run rate early on the chase New Zealand has shown you really don't have to go ballistic like Australia did from the getgo to nearly chase 400.
NZ & SA have chased similar totals whilst not going into overdrive multiple times in the past, although not in a WC, also looks like Oz pace bowling is not really delivering here! If Zampa doesn't deliver, probably without scoreboard pressure, they'll have a few hidings out there. Fielding's generally been pretty good/great under pressure & that's where they make the most difference.

They're not going to drop Starc but, that aside, at this point I feel that this is pretty close to the actual best XI we can field from this squad. It's more important now to stabilise and make sure everyone is in good nick rather than trying to work out selection.

Aussies got out of jail today!
NZ will walk off more confident. They weren't desperate about points like Australia anyways

can definitely be argued nz literally dropped their opportunity for a win.
Or it went through Sodhi's legs* to the boundary, or from Henry overstepping twice, or from bowling easy length at the death. All of which is why it's vital the fielding side don't drop their bundle just because the opposition batting are smoking it at the start. So so many fine margins.

* admittedly the legs of a Haast's eagle are not the best for fielding a cricket ball.

good field placing there to save the straight four in the last over

thought neesham was going to back to legside and smash starc in the offside but it didn't happen :(

aus missed nrr boost after scoring almost 400 lol
whilst they may have liked a boost I doubt it will come to it, top four now all on 8-10 points and 1.005 or more NRR, Sri Lanka next with 4 from 5 with them and all below on negative NRR which won't be so easy to turn around this many games in and they have to win games to boot

most anyone below the top four could manage is 10 points if they won all their games, India play England and Sri Lanka will knock that ambition, no real easy runs of games and frankly if you've won 2 out of 5-6 to suddenly win your last 3-4 would take some doing
