Both his dismissals in the first test were to absolutely awful shots. And he hasn't scored heavily in years. He deserves to be dropped if he is consistently not contributing much

Agreed! He didn't have much patience with players, but he has to be careful with the batsmen since his own form has been a little on and off.

Fun theory but tbf Pujara and Rahane proved him wrong each time they came back so he was made to look a bit of a fool.

They won multiple series and matches on their own, often without his help. I think that changed their status in his eyes.
