Three day finish at Canterbury I see. A pity, I was hoping to go tomorrow. Not that fussed about Kent getting stuffed but I haven't been to St Lawrence for two years, would like to see how the ground's coming along.

****ing useless declaration by the lions earlier. yes leave aus 350 in 65/70 overs.

First callup for Chopra next week, Stokes brought in also. Compton(back injury) and Bopara(personal problems) out. Bad timing for Compton you'd think with his name been mentioned in the England reckoning getting injured in this last lions game.

Pleased to see Essex beat what has been a pretty decent Kent side this season, by seven wickets. Kent skipper rightly deplored Kent's efforts with the bat, managing just 101 in their second innings with David Masters unable to bowl for Essex due to a side strain. Fair play to Maurice Chambers stepping up with a four-for, well supported by Napier and finally Harbhajan.

Essex were really up against it in their first innings and Kent must see it as a missed opportunity when the visitors were reduced to 23-4 and then 76-5. Fortunately Adam Wheater played one of his fine counter-attacking innings in a partnership of 126 with the more circumspect skipper James Foster. With Napier chipping in with 43, Essex gained an unlikely first innings lead of 47, it went from bad to worse for Kent thereafter.

Forgive me for going on about this victory, been a while coming for Essex, their only other victory came in the opening round of games against Gloucester.

Yes thought the same from what I followed today. Thought the likes of Bairstow and Kieswetter could bat with unerring freedom this morning and leave themselves plenty of time to have a real go at the Aussies. An end of play score of 144-4 suggests that it was a bit of a nothing declaration.

An extra hour or so may not have given the Lions enough time but would have shown plenty more intent.

It will be interesting to see how Stokes' bowling goes in comparison to other seamers, assuming Morgan actually uses him properly. Would think he'd come in for one of the spinners, quite happy for him to play for Durham instead though.

Looks like we're going to be bowled out inside 30 overs, mindless slogging apparently being seen as preferable to damage limitation.

Shame, Could have been the 3rd time this week we'd have bowled out Slurrey for less than 150.

Helpful run rate boost in the mickey mouse 40 over stuff.

Sam Billings doing something to live upto the billing that Athers has been giving him. Hopefully he can break into Kent's 4 day team given their poor batting performance this last week.

Somewhat irritating that we're making a game of this against Glamorgan. Letting an absolute plodder smash a century against us when he had a top score of 85 from 207 limited overs games.

Sussex won, but I've just seen Murray Goodwin's figures for the season - 250 runs at 13.8. Retirement beckons if his usual season-rescuing 200 isn't forthcoming.
