I've gone from being stoked they skittled them for 204 to disgusted when I saw they recovered from 7/67. Should have had them out for 130. If the Poms are getting to 204, I'm not backing this Windies outfit to beat it on a track with some grass on it.

Anywho, least it's a result wicket.

I guess we will have to wait and see how we bat. I definitely agree that we let it slip and it could have been better. My argument is that 204 all out is still an excellent result for us.

I also think triple back to back tests took it's toll yesterday, the bowlers looked knackered to me. And yes Kraigg went back to his previous captaincy modus operandi which was to wait for mistakes.

I didn't actually watch the partnership but I've gotta say I actually think waiting for mistakes is an under-rated way to bowl to #10 and #11. I think a lot of captains and bowlers overthink it. Probably not the case yesterday, especially in hindsight, but I don't mind "bowl normally, they're tailenders for a reason, they'll get out" as a first option to proper tailenders.

Probably should have moved to second/third options a bit quicker though, looking at how long Leach ended up batting....

Just watched the highlights, Jack Leach played some beautiful classic cricket shots.

Pressure on the new ball bowlers in the first session, they know they need wickets.

Leach has always struck me more as someone who couldn't bat against Test bowlers than someone who couldn't bat. I reckon if you sent him back to league cricket he'd bat 3 and average 50; he just doesn't have the reflexes to face bowling faster than 80mph (usually).

Also explains his annoying match-winning knock as opener against Ireland...

I wonder where Kyle Mayers will bat today? Personally I would put him at 6 above Holder. I hope they don;t have him at 7 or below, he's a proper batsman and should be treated as such.

Make him open and bat Campbell at 8 IMO :ph34r:

But yeah I think he'll bat 7.

I’m looking forward to the first couple of hours to see if the wicket is still a bit tricky. I know the last wicket suggests it might have flattened out, but the Windies lost the plot once the partnership had reached 30.

I kind of liked the Blackwood opening experiment, and even though he wasn't amazing there he was better than the other options that had been tried there. I was almost disappointed to see him make that ton when he moved back to the middle order as it'll probably rule it out as an option.

Mayers does open in domestic limited overs cricket a fair bit and always had a reputation as being great against pace and allergic to off spin before that once in a lifetime knock in Bangladesh, so I wouldn't mind seeing him have a crack at it.

Campbell, Solozano and Moseley are way too far away from being amongst the best seven bats in the country to select based on specialisation IMO.

Yep I can see your logic, it wouldn;t be the worst experiment. I just want them to give Evin Lewis a run as opener tbh. It might not work but surely it is worth a go now rather than recycling those 3.
