I don't know enough about any of these players to know either way but I can imagine it would be an easy thing to blame for selection issues

He averages less then bavuma and also has no test 100 after 17 tests. Definitely disagree with him being better.

Yeah honestly the issue seems to be picking random 30 YO journeymen with middling records like rassie, zondo, erwie, or even Pieter malan before him over young talent. De zori, rickelton, Richards, van tonder, roelfersten etc should be amongst the group by now .

Its an easy selection issue to blame but ignores the reality that most of the poor selection has been players that are white not of colour.
The point being that the reason SA have such a bad lineup is not because of quota issues but just the outright selection of the wrong players whether of colour or not.

They would also be better with Kholi, Root, KW and Smith in the team…
But more importantly they would also be better off picking the younger more talented batsmen scoring double hundreds at home, particularly long term.

Devon Conway was a bang average batsman in SA domestic cricket , scored a lot of runs at semi professional level but at FC level for the main Lions team didn't do so well ...A credit to himself for upping his game when he went to New Zealand .

Conway is probably a better indication of how poorly the CSA treats its players and gives them little to no support. It was not like Conway was never considered a talented player.

Same issue with Kevin Pietersen, in South Africa he was considered as a front line spinner who could bat a bit ...Why did he have to go to England to find out who he really is ?

Not quite true… he was considered a talented batsmen, and well supported by Graeme Ford who is respected in SA cricket. His biggest issues was attitude and when he did not get his way left. The attitude stayed his entire career and brought his career down.

i think the point's more that there are disappointing white players (vdd, erwee) as well as black players (zondo) who are getting picked, and it's not as if you can just handwave the poor batting lineup by saying "ohh too many black guys who don't deserve it"

There are players of colour who should have been picked in front of most of the current selection… in particular de Zorzi.
