Well I don't think you can't just accumulate 918 points in the ICC ratings and occupy the number 1 position for a sizable period of time if you are not a good player. Yeah yeah I know the come back line is a lot of luck and home games blah blah but still some of the alternatives there have never come anywhere close to what he has done. I mean let's face it neither Green or Inglis are going to be a decent number 3 so they are just wasting valuable time against a reasonably poor opponents trying them out there

If it was Kpat or even McSweeney who are actual top order players, then I won't mind that but this is a pointless exercise

Unfortunately none of that is relevant until he can regain the form that helped him achieve that. It has been long gone for multiple years now

But if he can, then sure, but that looks like a big if at this point

He should take the opening spot after Usman. Too good to not to play an another test
To opener- KP. if u can play #3 is worth a try as opener as #3 is trained on the new ball.

Inglis will be #3 for the Ashes. Smith #4 and Head his traditional #5. Webster at #6 and CArey #7. Boland has now leapfrogged the pecking order(he single handedly won them the BGT last summer) Hazlewood was dire in his WTC return.

England are dire anyway- see the score v India right now, absolutely inept cricketing side now. In their whole country of circa 60 million, not even 1 decent bowler.

Are we liking Sangha as an option? I'm hoping last year is a career changer for him. He gets a bit of a drubbing on here but he does have talent. He's young, bats in the top 4 and has the opportunity for test cricket right in front of him.

Why is marnus still in the test squad for west indies? He's clearly out of form. Either let him stay in the U.K and play a few games with glamorgan to work on some stuff or give him a break. Staying in the squad as a backup right now helps nobody.

probably they feel bad for him and want to keep him in the group, we know what a boys club it is with McDonald and Bailey atm

KPat should start for us in the Ashes if he shows decent early Shield form IMO. Either opening or at 3
I dunno man, he's basically Marcus North without the part time spin, he's so rocks or diamonds.

The answer is Tim Ward, pending a good start to the Shield season.

If this Tim Ward character has a decent few early Shield rounds he's as good as shout as any. It would be a great time to be an in form Shield batsnan. The likes of Martin Love and Jamie Cox will be cursing they weren't 25 years younger

Yeah for sure. Cox and Deane Hills would be a ready made combo for the current side.

I dunno if they'd look at Weatherald but if he starts well again he would have to be a chance too. Not really sold on thinking blokes have turned a corner after as long he's been playing but he would be in the discussion I suppose. 900 at 50 across ten games on the decks Shield is played on these days is exceptional. Ward had 660 odd in 7 games at 51 batting three, but he's opened his whole career til this year. Maybe only the one ton might count against him. Made a couple of 90s iirc though.
