would switch switch foakes and bairstow's spots tbh

foakes' batting style combined with his position is useless to the team and isn't being used well enough

Just tuned in... Only selecting one seamer + 2.5 spinners (and one of them struggles to land it on the pitch).... lolwtf. Has England ever done that before? Seems like a big FU to the pitch.

Can’t help but feel Bairstow would be wasted at 8 though. Yes he has a more aggressive approach which could be useful when batting with the tail, but despite his last Test I’d back him to be more like to make a match defining contribution up the order rather than Foakes.

Foakes should at least have some solid support below him in Bess and Leach who can both hold a bat.

yea but then you have Bairstow playing as a specialist number 8, which would be crushing to his ego if the whole Stokes-At-Eight experiment is anything to go by.

I can't see him batting at 3 with Lawrence in the XI tho. Should be batting no higher than 5.

Nice bit of bounce, pace and a bit of seam movement on this deck! Look well if it’s a seamers deck! You would expect it to take some turn aswell today though.

Plenty of bounce in this wicket so far. Might just be the overnight dew + new ball, but good for at least ten overs in the morning. Eng might rue not bowling the extra seamer.

foakes has andy flower vibes to his batting vs spin

would give him as many overs of spin to bat against as possible

Playing for turn again, not learnt clearly. A new ball always likely to skid on, if he rips one and takes the outside edge then fair play to the spinner, but don’t keep falling to the ball that does nothing!
