New Zealand A tour of India (A) – September 2022

Seems like Rajat Patidar will probably get his chance in the BD test tour in Winter. It was a 1 on 1 battle with Sarfraz & he has come out on top. Coming ODI series vs NZ A will give him a chance to get into second string ODI side that will play vs SA. Umran got some much needed first class experience.
Overall a good series for both teams. Fisher looks like a top prospect for Kiwis.

Okay so is Joe Carter going to our horses for courses SC specialist bat moving forward?

Haven't seen of this tour's coverage, so just assuming the guy is competent vs. spin.

Bay of Plenty player who's always had the training and playing conditions to become okay at it, I guess.

It seems this series wasn't played on pitches that offered the spinners a whole lot though, and it was noticeable how Chapman would score very rapidly against their spinners while the others defended and laboured their way to scores. What Carter managed was maybe more an indication of how cushy first-class top-order bats can have it in other parts of the world, compared to the greenery and movement of the Dooka first-class cricket, Matt Henry cricket, Simon Keene and Brett Randell cricket back home.

Saurabh Kumar (5/103) struck gold to guide India ‘A’ to a 113-run win over New Zealand ‘A’ in the third and final unofficial ‘Test’, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Sunday. The home side wrapped up the series 1-0.

Left-arm spinner Saurabh, who troubled the batters by attacking the stumps, finished with a nine-wicket match haul. His performance was doubly impressive given that he shouldered the bulk of the spin duties in the absence of Rahul Chahar. Leg-spinner Chahar left the field in the morning session with an injury, and bowled just the single over for the day.

Joe Carter (111, 230b, 12x4, 1x6) battled hard for New Zealand. Carter was the ninth wicket to fall, when he charged down the track at pacer Mukesh Kumar and lost his stumps. It was a rash shot from Carter, given that New Zealand ‘A’ was less than an hour away from saving the game.

Sarfaraz Khan, called to bowl to fill the gap left by Chahar, picked up two crucial middle-order wickets in Mark Chapman and Robert O’Donnell. While Chapman mi**** a long hop, O’Donnell was pinned on the pads by a flat delivery.

That all five of Saurabh’s wickets came through leg-befores was testament to his nagging accuracy. Batters were most vulnerable when stuck on the crease; a moment’s indecision enough to be caught in front.

A couple of New Zealand ‘A’ batters were unhappy to be given out leg-before, indicating that they got some bat on it.

Fast bowler Umran Malik had trouble overstepping, delivering ten no-balls in the second innings. Malik managed to scalp the wicket of tailender Cam Fletcher, who attempted a hook and fell for an obvious bouncer trap.

On Malik’s transition from white-ball success to the red-ball game, India ‘A’ Head Coach ****anshu Kotak said, “Umran has done in the IPL and proven himself with the white ball. Umran is very quick. He is the quickest bowler in India. The selectors, (India senior head coach) Rahul (Dravid) bhai, (NCA Director) V.V.S. Laxman and the BCCI have an idea to develop Umran. He is here for us to develop him to get better with the red ball.”

Kotal was all praise for Rajat Patidar, Tilak Verma and Mukesh Kumar, all of whom made their maiden India ‘A’ appearances in this series. Patidar was the standout batter, with scores of 176 and 109 not out. Tilak impressed with a 121 in the first match, while fast bowler Mukesh finished as the joint highest wicket-taker of the series alongside Saurabh (nine wickets).

India ‘A’ skipper Priyank Panchal stated that Chahar did not have any major injury trouble. “Rahul has a niggle. He left the field because we did not want to take any chances, given that there is a long season ahead,” Panchal said.

Patidar and Sarfaraz are completely different players though, why is there a 1 v 1 between them now?

I can see why Troy Johnson and Devan Vishvaka would quite often outscore Ravindra by plenty on their Hutt Hawks tours of India.

Joe Carter may've laboured his way to recent tons, but surely he's nowhere near representing NZ in white ball formats. Chapman should've really played all three of these games.

Geez that's some depressing scorecard for NZ A after 25 overs after a reasonable showing in the long version series.

That's a strong India A side have to say. Good to see two 90mph pacers playing in Sen & Umran... stark contrast to army of trundlers deployed by Rohit & Dravid. Rishi Dhawan the oldie had no business to play over Raj Bawa though who is a genuine fast bowling A/R.

Umran Malik in Australia would go as well as Naseem Shah's debut at this stage.

Good effort from michael rippon so far. Almost singlehandedly carrying NZ A to a significant score.

While Umran is quite raw but playing him in these Bilaterals that India wasted on Boobie Avesh types was crucial. Now Avesh is dumped for good &, all those games he played were basically worthless.
Kartik Tyagi is arguably the best young Indian quick out there that has come via proper system but is no where to be seen. Tall, fast & hostile bowler a rare combo in Indian cricket. Kuldeep Sen is coming through the ranks nicely after a decent debut season in IPl. And I think he is closer to a India cap.

But these Harshal boobi Koomar are not going to win u anything... That too in Australia of all places. These guys playing in Perth vs SA will be comical to see. I'd rather have Siraj or even freakin Umesh going over there as genuine wicket takers.

While I agree with you on bowlers like Bhuvi/Tye/Jordan are cannon fodder, I definitely don't think just picking pacy guys would be much better especially when we're talking drains like Umesh and Umran. Be interesting to see how Pakistan goes with 3 pacers who have each clocked 150 though. Let's see if pace in Australia is really the answer.

Where the **** is Natarajan and why isn't he a Bracken clone yet?
