Wouldn't be surprised to lose all 6 games but that's kinda what these tours are for. Show the boys what they need to do and hopefully give them a platform to show they're high quality cricketers.

Looks like India are coming at us hard with that squad. I love it.

I think our best possible team is;

Ravindra
Carter
O'Donnell
Chapman
Bruce
Cleaver
Fletcher (wk)
Rippon
Walker
Duffy
Fisher (paaaace)

Honestly our team is a bit **** - no Smith, Young, Ajaz, Neesham or Sears - but it is a good opportunity for these guys.

Playing XIs are up on NZC site (which also says "End of day updates only"). NZ A batting 1st. No surprises in the playing XI, 2 seamers (van Beek + Duffy), 2 spinners (Rippon, Walker) and 2 all rounders (Solia, Ravindra). Fletcher ahead of Cleaver, assume they will rotate. O'Donnell captain so perhaps he captains the red ball games (with Carter + Chapman + Bruce 2 FC games each), Bruce perhaps captain for the white ball games. Bowes opening for NZ A with a FC average of 28.95.

India A looks like 3 seamers + 1 spinner (Kuldeep Yadav). IPL star Umran Malik (150+ kmh) not playing, will be interesting to see if he gets a FC game.

That’s a horrendous New Zealand A team. Chad Bowes would be lucky to be playing for Canterbury you’d think.

What’s Van Beek doing there, wasn’t he really bad for Wellington last year? He’s in that circle of friends with Tom Latham, the same one Bracewell is apart of. Willing to bet he’s playing for New Zealand by the end of this summer ?‍♂

Indian batting looks really solid. Bowling attack on bench is far more exciting than the ones playing. Arzan & Kumar aren't really good option. Yash Dayal has pace & is a left armer. Kuldeep is playing just for the sake of it.

Yes, the problem with Bowes has always been handling of bounce, Plunket Shield opening attacks exposing him to green seam and bounce, but it's still a bit of a curious choice. The emerging Indian pacer isn't like a Zaheer Khan giving you <130kph half volleys these days.

That bias towards getting a novel name in there opening for NZ A, like it's a fresh Instant Kiwi ticket that might somehow blow up huge against all odds and solve all the worries, it certainly isn't a policy shared by India A, despite the plethora of options you'd think they'd have. I notice Easwaran is playing in his 18th India A four-dayer today since 2018.

Beat me to it...... Dude turns 32 next week, plays for Netherlands & in spite not being that quick tends to get hit around as if he was 10 kms quicker. How this guy makes a development squad as the "A" squad is supposed to be is beyond me. And this on the back of an unwanted Will Williams moving to play in the UK.

Need a big partnership as that NZ A bowling attack will probably concede 500 runs.

Sean Solia might have a big tour and be the next random allrounder (ala CDG) and make the Black Caps before Nathan Smith.

A big preference for facing pace over spin was how Solia's coaches saw his early days. He'll have to rise up in spite of that, like Daryl Mitchell.

Joe Carter next secretly good 30yr old NZ battler?
New trend in NZ cricket after CDG/Mitchell and questionably Macewell is to call every 30 yr old with a mediocre domestic record a secret gun. And the more mediocre that batting average is... the better.

Enter Chad Bowes.

Nzfan did tell CW recently that a tidy domestic white ball record would be the thing to have from now on.

Four-day cricket has become like the B-roll shots of the footy players in the swimming pool, the day after the big game.

Yeah I'd say List A is like the Olympics for a track athlete or something though. Still presents a rare chance every four years to transcend an obscure niche.

Lots of rain in and around Bangalore, flash flood warnings elsewhere in Karnataka too. Will be lucky to get much cricket out of the 1st test for sure.
