New Feature : Country vs Club and Why IPL needs a separate window

So if another multi-million dollar league springs up - like proposed Pak-SL joint league with the backig of Oil-lords of Arab, who could buy off SRK's arse - should there be another window for it?
Is there one today? When is this proposed league going to come up? You cross the bridge when you get to it. I have seen many empty rhetorics like this. No one but Modi and co. executed the idea. If any other nation can do it, let them and we can argue about that point when it happens.

I said it's up to ICC and the other boards. I know BCCI don't give a hoot about the other nations.
Don't think that if a window does open up, it would be opened at the initiative of the other boards. What might be likely is that individual boards, because of pressure from their players, may opt not to have international commitments which clash with the IPL If there is going to be a window, It would be a de facto window rather than a de jure window.

The BCCI was apprehensive about the participation of international players in the IPL when the whole idea was first conceived; hence they paid out a dole of $70 million (?) or so to Sri Lanka as the carrot. Now they are not, as their reaction to the recent bargaining attempt by Sri Lanka shows.

The question is if there is such one (it's on the drawing board BTW), will it get the same status of IPL. No point running away from the argument on hand.

I have seen enough news like this. There was a pakistan premier league, There was a league that WI were going to create. Then there was american league and now this. Assuming if there is one that surfaces we need to find out how much clout that league can pull. For example we have the Big Bash which is pretyt big in Australia but only a handful of foreign players are playing there. The new league will always be under the shadow of IPL and if and when it grows to the stature of IPL then we might get in to scenario like footbal where the clubs will dominate and International cricket will be left with Just Tests and World cup for ODI's.

P.S: Do you have a link for such a league, would be interested to know about that...

Giving IPL its own window would certainly start a vicious cycle that would damage international cricket, other leagues like IPL are gonna get established in most prominent cricket nations sooner rather than later and if an IPL window is sanctioned then these countries too would demand a window for their respective tournaments.

The fact of the matter is its now upto cricket's leading body to decide which direction they want cricket to go in, we either admit that league cricket is the way forward and limit international cricket down to some marquee tournaments or otherwise they can draw some strict guidelines to protect the interests of international cricket.

I disagree....

The IPL is much larger than other domestic 20/20 competitions, such as Big Bash, the English one, etc. All that needs to be done is to create a window for the IPL.

And the non-creation of such a window is not really hurting the bigger teams, such as India, England and Australia. It's really hurting the poorer teams, such as WI, SL and NZ. Those are the teams that need the window.

If they don't get the window, then they should enforce a de facto window - refuse to take part in any international tour that clashes with the IPL. That way, their players can both earn good money from playing in the IPL, and they can also play international cricket for their country.

Disagree that IPL deserves a separate window. It is a domestic tournament (albeit a glorified one) and should be treated as such.
