Fact 1: I played for a World XI side 18 times

Fact 2: I also played against a World XI 5 times
Maybe someone who played against the ROW sides in the early 70's after SA got the boot & then played against Aus in WSC. Maybe Alan Knott?

Edit: Sorry but i have to make a correction he faced a World XI 4 times and he faced an International XI 4 times for one team and 4 times against for another team.
So he played 8 times for World XI's not 18 then?

And am I right that he is an English or Australian player from those series against ROW in the early 70's? I'm trying to recall if Aus had 2 of these series. If so, maybe we're talking about an Englishman who played in 4 of the 1970 games and in both series in Aus. Possibly John Snow. Or even Richard Hutton?

EDIT Snow played in WSC, so delete him.

Sorry about this the problem is i mistook an International XI as a World XI

To recap:

Played 18 times for a World XI side

Faced a World XI Side 4 times

Faced an International XI 4 times for one team.

Faced an International XI 4 times for another team.

Remember not all of these are classed as First-Class as they might taken place during tours.

And he is not English or Australian but did take part in the ROW tours (for this purpose i'm counting an ROW side as a World XI side for ease.)

Sorry about this confusion :(

I'm really struggling, even after looking at the ROW tours in 1970 & 1971/2 on Cricinfo.

Sobers played in all their games, so he's my best bet, although I don't know how you get to 18 and I have no idea about the times he played against an International XI.

Failing that, I'd plump for Kanhai or maybe Clive Lloyd.
But I am guessing.

I'll give you the matches:

(1970)
England v Rest of the World XI Lord's, London
England v Rest of the World XI Trent Bridge, Nottingham
England v Rest of the World XI Edgbaston, Birmingham
England v Rest of the World XI Headingley, Leeds
England v Rest of the World XI Kennington Oval, London

(1971-72)
Victoria v World XI Melbourne Cricket Ground
New South Wales v World XI Sydney Cricket Ground
Australia v World XI Brisbane Cricket Ground
Western Australia v World XI Perth
Australia v World XI Perth
Australia v World XI Perth
South Australia v World XI Adelaide Oval
Tasmania v World XI North Tasmania Cricket Association Ground
Tasmania Combined XI v World XI Hobart
Australia v World XI Melbourne Cricket Ground
Australia v World XI Sydney Cricket Ground
Australia v World XI Melbourne Cricket Ground
Australia v World XI Adelaide Oval

That's 18

Clue 5: I captained my country in our first-ever ODI

Without checking the scorecards again, that must be Sobers, as I think Kanhai missed a couple of those games. btw you might want to check out a ROW game in Pakistan around then, in which he might also have played.

Fact 1: I played for a World XI side 18 times

Fact 2: I also played against a World XI 4 times

Fact 3: You won't see any of those records on Cricinfo's Statsguru however

Fact 4: I never played in Packer's WSC

Fact 5: I'm not English or Australian

Fact 6: I captained my country in our first-ever ODI

Fact 7: I played in ROW games in Pakistan

Is this question too difficult or are these clues just not that very good?

Intikhab Alam?
Bingo

-Played the 18 listed times for the world XI
-Played 4 times against a World XI in the Rothmans World Cricket Cup 1967, and in Pakistan in 1970/71 and 1973/74
-None of these matches kept their test status for long.
-Had retired by the time of WSC from international cricket
-Captained pakistan in their first ODI in 1973 vs NZ

(Although the 1973/74 World XI weren't anywhere near a proper World XI with Mike Brearley playing as just a batsmen and Harry Pilling opening the batting)

Your turn

The immediate answer that springs to my mind is Charl Langeveldt - did he have to put some overtime in instead of playing for South Africa?

I know that he was a prison guard so the idea of it appeals to me.
