well you are right in a way, out of all the senior cricketers around the Lancashire CC, he is one of the least approachable.
Well... that's partly because he's not a Lancastrian, he's a Derbyshire man.

One of these Andre Nel \ Glenn McGrath types - likes to make a big show on the field, to both wind-up batsmen and get himself going - but it's all on-field. Cork is certainly a very nice chap off-field - I'm sure le would tell you the same.
Alternatively you could look at the post above yours from someone who hangs around OT...

Why should that make a difference?

Or are you therefore saying all non-natives are not as approachable as those born in the county?

He is not a Lancastrian but he wasn't born in Derbyshire either.

Unfortunate enough to be born in one of the backwoods that don't have Fc cricket.

No he really isnt. Do you remember when Nasser made his defiant number 3 gesture at the press box in a ODI? Well i remember Mr Cork tried to reinact that with a number 7. Corks nasty contorted face almost ruined what was a brilliant England victory. Plus there was that Beckhamesque hair cut he had. A complete prat.
At least he wasn't a southern puff.

His relatively brief career means he's barely remembered
Well I remember his career (through books, interviews and other sources). If most here don't know him then maybe they should think about how much they really know about cricket.

I have greater faith than you. I think most would know of Roy Gilchrist no matter what their age. We are talking about a prominent Test fast bowler not some obscure player who played all their career for Wales in the Minor Counties.

I've always found Corky a very approachable bloke - as you say, all bombast and bluster on the pitch, but a fantastic competitor to boot.

Not all, obviously, but it's clearly going to be more difficult for an import to "fit in" than someone who's been there a long while.
That's why people still like talking about how many county-born players are in a side.

Y'know what I mean - Cork was at Derbys for, what, 13 years or so?
He's still far more of a Derbys man than a Lancs.

I can immidiately think of 2 sources where I've heard of him - and 1 was only because he'd died. The Wisden obituary. I might know something about him but for that, but again - I might not.
And the other place was Opening Up by MAA, where all he says is "his reputation as a nasty piece of work".
You've given me an idea...

Staffs lad, but in love with Derbys (as any sane Staffs boy would be).

Very approachable fellow, and on his day a great cricketer to boot, and I do not bandy about with the word great, and even when it isn't going right for him, will sweat blood for the cause (how many times was he asked to run in and bowl bouncers for England, how many times was he hit for a boundry; accurate chap, full of brio).

Derbyshire Legend.

Apropos approachable fellows, I've bumped into Luke Sutton occasionally in Tesco/Sainsbury and he's always willing to have a wee chat, top geezer.

And obviously the culture shock will be so massive when one of the county players moves a few miles in the UK

England mightn't be the most multicultural place in The World but Lancashire does have plenty of unique qualities... I'd think most people would say that.
