why osama then? why not call him wg grace?A racist comment would inherently elude to Ali's Anglo-Pakistani ancestry, not his religiously affiliated facial hair.

That the culprit knows Moeen has grown his beard for religious piety and not, as with Grace, that he is merely a Victorian gentleman wearing the concurrent hair styling of empire.why osama then? why not call him wg grace?
Most Muslims are actually either African or Indonesian actually. It has to do with race since the vast majority of its followers are Arab/South Asian/Persian.
Thanks. Another one on ignore.I talk about being aware of one's lack of perspective a lot when it comes to this type of discussion. So in an effort to practise what I preach I really should leave S Kennedy alone, as I've never had the perspective of a complete moron before
About half a billion in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Then add the Middle East to that. Most Muslims are actually either African or Indonesian actually.
I'll put it another way. If a white Muslim, say English, of Anglo-Saxon ethnicity and from a Christian background, with similar facial hair as Moeen was called ''Osama'' or something similar, would that be racist?
Islam is a proselytising religion much like Christianity. It does not have anything to do with race.
That simply wouldn't happen though.

So, first you ask if the same thing was said to a White Muslim, would it be considered racist? The answer is that no one trying to rattle a White Muslim with a beard would call him Osama. Ali was called that because of his ethnicity. Without acknowledging that, you then pivot to the existence of black Muslims.78,056,000 Muslims in Nigeria? Would you freely associate black people with Islamic terrorism?
I disagree. There have been Caucasian Muslims attacked in countries like Britain and the United States on account of their attire, not just facial hair but shalwar kameez, etc. This is undisputed fact. So, first you ask if the same thing was said to a White Muslim, would it be considered racist? Why do you think Ali wasn't called Osama because of the mix of his religion and ethnicity? Just answer this particular question.
If you knew anything about Africa and Boko Haram...... then yes, a very big yes.78,056,000 Muslims in Nigeria? Would you freely associate black people with Islamic terrorism?
Agreed and there is a is a term - "Islamophobia"I think we need a word like anti-Semitic to describe Islamic stereotyping.
I'll never underestimate my, entirely unintentional I assure you, capacity to wind up everybody here.what are you even arguing about anymore kennedy?
Clearly I'm in the minority then in not finding this racist. I'll just agree to disagree then and depart from this particular argument. He's winging it and hoping we'll nod along at some point.
Yes. In those cases, it's islamophobia. If someone called them a name of a white Muslim terrorist, that would have an ethnic basis to it, hence it would be racist.I disagree. There have been Caucasian Muslims attacked in countries like Britain and the United States on account of their attire, not just facial hair but shalwar kameez, etc. This is undisputed fact.
Again, please read the full coverage. The internet culture does encourage fast hot takes and reactions but it's important in such serious matters to at least read the full story.Anyways, while I don’t think Moeen is lying but it’s also a perfectly valid question why he would wait for this long? Situation would have been dealt with much sooner and everyone would have moved on by now. It’s not far fetched to assume it’s due to financial reasons.
Can you cite some real incidents when a white man in a beard was called Osama?People do, true, but, and I hate to analyse the head of Davey Wa - whoops - but in this particular circumstance I believe the insult was more directed at Moeen's appearance, so yes, that insult could just as well be directed at a Caucasian.
It simply isn't racist. A racist remark would refer to Moeen's Anglo-Pakistani heritage. It is that simple.
