Mark Butcher vs Johnny Bairstow

Cricketer Of The Year
Not sure he ever really ran out of puff. Seemed to call for a runner any time he got to double figures.

Just to add to the Collingwood love, I used to show his catches against Australia in 2005 to people in cricket v baseball arguments. I did temporarily lose some love for him when he made a 3-0 prediction against Pakistan post-Ashes, but overall he was one of my favs Eng players from that era.

Didn't know Bairstow has 70 plus tests. And Damien Martyn only played 67 wtf is wrong with this world

Australia had an embarrassment of riches to choose from in Martyn's era and England had just two good batsmen in Bairstow's era, one of which retired mid way through his career.

Bairstow does also overlap with Strauss, Trott, Bell, Pietersen, Prior and others. Granted all of them at the tail end pretty much. So I’m not sure what my point is.

I think this to myself as I get towards the end of most of my posts. And spoken sentences in real life.
Udal was actually good imo. Way better than the dreadful Ian Blackwell, Alex Loudon, Richard Dawson and Gareth Batty.
Loudon was a batsman tbf. Not a very good one mind you

They picked Loudon because he'd developed a "doosra" and they thought it was worth a punt. A guy called Shaftab Khalid who played a couple of years at Worcester also got on a Lions tour for the same reason despite negligible impacts in county cricket.
