Manipulating stats to make players look awesome

Whatever it takes!!!
Not sure if this is appropriate for this thread, but there's no reason Sobers should not have played at no. 3 more:

Interesting to see he has scored test hundreds opening, at 3, 4,5,6 AND 7. Wonder if there is anyone else who can boast of that record. Also amazing he managed to average so much while shifting around so much in the batting order AND bowling quite a bit.. Awesome..

If we only consider innings' played by Tendulkar where he's scored more than his career average (because he was obviously less than par in the innings' where he scored less than his career average, and so those must be discarded - Vivian/Ian principle, aka VivIan principle :-O), then he's scored 7853 runs in 90 innings' with 16 not outs, at an average of 106.2 with 48 centuries.
What if you take only innings of his that are higher than the average of the innings that he averaged higher than his original average?

That'd be an average of 211.79 with 40 hundreds in 6142 runs scored over 40 innings, Daemon.

Good work

But just where exactly did his 8 hundreds disappear to? They all in the 100-106s?

Marcus North's average taking out his first few months when he actually played OK, is 28.37.

Thought it'd be lower than that, itstl. Because of his decent series against NZ I'm guessing.

What you need is the "average North innings when he scores >20" My bet is that he averages something ridiculous like 90.

Yes, Daemon :p Further proof that Tendulkar > all. You take away 8 hundreds, and his average actually doubles. WAG
That would be considering only centuries of his that have passed 106. Not saying much really, although this now makes me wonder who averages the most when considering centuries only

Someone has done the stats on that one, Sanga and Jayawardene are right up there. Sehwag must be pretty good as well, though not as brilliant as when he was on that ridiculous streak of 150+ scores.

Taking 40 wickets in a series when everyone else was injured (McGrath), bowling tripe (Kasprowicz, Gillespie) or lacking FC experience after spending so much time on the bench (Lee) not great?

Think in 2001 Ashes he also bounced back significantly from "that" period.
Wtf does any of that have to do with Ricky Ponting's batting record in England?

Any way to filter a player's career based on strike rate on statsguru?
Is this what you're looking for?

Ranking by strike rate in test cricket for all players: Batting records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | Cricinfo.com

Ranking by strike rate in test cricket for players with at least 20 matches:
Batting records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | Cricinfo.com

You can play around with the various criteria and then rank by strike rate to get whatever stats you're after.
