Ignore longevity. Treat him as a bowler who took 500+ wickets @ under 24 in a 13 year period. That's Shaun Pollock level of output. Anderson's additional years only add to his overall contribution. If Pollock is an ATG (or Walsh for that matter), so is Anderson.
He has a 345 wicket/9.5 year period averaging 21.5 (23 away) as well which is pretty similar to Davidson

When playing away he tends to be shielded unless conditions are favourable, by either not playing or bowling geriatric workloads. Very low wickets per match, probably because he is bowling dry instead of seeking wickets. He has such a low workload over the last 5 years that he is verging on a joke. His playing is hurting England badly by not letting others establish themselves and find their wicket taking groove. It's shameful and only possible because anyone can take wickets in the last 5 years

Here's another one, Hazlewood has 273 wickets at 24.8 from 70 Tests. The last 8 years sees Anderson with 267 wickets at 22.2.

We keep saying stuff like this, "Part of Jimmy's career is as good/better than these other whole careers" but it's not really relevant to why people don't consider him an ATG.

It's not the numbers, it's the (perceived?) condition dependence and lack of universal utility as a bowler compared to those considered ATGs

except in Anderson’s case it is those numbers that make his case

and while he may not be a part of the super ultra exclusive club that some members here talk of due to their own criteria its not even a popular view on here judging by this poll and it sure as hell isnt even considered a view outside this forum

I don't get how any of this is relevant to what you quoted

because you’re not considering

Anderson numbers = atg in the views of the majority

for the simple reason that it would end the thread then and there and you cant have more drama
That has nothing to do with what I said though

I'm not even on either side. It's not his bare numbers that cause doubt, hence "look at these numbers though" is not addressing the basis of that doubt

the majority is probably tipped by people who want to legitimise Ashwin

Ashwin has a 12 year period when he averages 27.84 with the ball outside India (37 matches). During this period, he also averages 24.94 with the bat away from home.
He is close to an ATG bowler imo and clearly an ATG cricketer.

Anderson is marginally a better bowler than Ashwin, marginally worse cricketer and still an ATG.
