Imagine an attack of Wasim, Waqur, M Zahid, Saqlain/Akthar

Looking at the footage of M Zahid, it does seem like he had extreme pace.

Played in Aus, Vs Ind.

Imagine that bowling attack of Pak!

Bit silly you'd be a batsman short with Moin Khan or Rashid Latif batting 6 and Wasim at 7

Anyway I'm sure 4 of them played together quite a bit around late 90s/early 00s.

With an attack of Wasim/Waqar/Shoaib/Saqlain (& Razzaq) they beat Australia in the opening ODI of the tri series in 1999, bowling them out for 139. The only game Aus lost that summer. Also happened to be the first ODI I ever was aware of taking place as a kid

They would have done better playing Wasim, Akthar, Mahmood, and Razzaq with Saqlain. Later Wasim would have given away to Asif. They could have loaded the team with batting, and five bowlers could have done wonders.

Mahmood, razzaq, Afridi

Sohail, anwar, ijaz, Saleem m, Inzy, Yousuf, moin, latif, f Iqbal.

Mushy, Arshad Khan.

What a team it was with many options.

This is, like, exactly what they did a lot of the time. And they weren't particularly good
They rarely played Mahmood and Razzaq together. They tended to play one of them. These were not out and out fast bowlers to blow away sides or batsmen to score daddy hundreds. They were ones who needed time to develop. It was just identifying what they could do and giving them a long term role in the test side. ODIs, of course due to Afridi only one of these could find a place.

The issue Pakistan had was the amount of crap up the order. They needed SAF style rescues by the all rounders.

Unfortunately Zahid was not a good support bowler. When you have the level of bowling talent Pakistan did at the time, your "lesser" bowlers need to keep things tight. A Kaspa instead of Lee approach.

Zahid was rather quick and dangerous in his own right, but scattergun with extras and deliveries which could be hit, not the addition such an already penetrative attack needed.

Then again, we did persist with a much less promising looking Mohammad Sami for years, so who knows...

Been talking about ODIs mate
Nah, I was clearly talking about test matches. It was very clear. And in CW unless it is explicityly mentioned we talk about tests.
