They can still play series that aren't part of the league though can't they?

I love getting to see the minnows in action for a couple of games at the World Cup. I don't see reducing it to ten teams as anything other than a step backwards at a time where the quality of the 11th-14th ranked teams is stronger than ever.
How about a pre-qualifying for the fortnight before the World Cup for teams 9-14, top 2 make the main draw?

They did a PRE QUAL TORUNAMENT BEFORE 1 ICC TOURNAMENT,WAS TELECAST,RATHER BOrING WEST INDIES AND SRILANKA QUALIFIED EASILY,BUT MAYBE A SOLUTION.
SORRY FOR THE CAPS COULDN'T BE BOTHERED CHANGING.
On ind- oz series, not sure, maybe they would count as friendlies rather than one dayers.
The idea is to play each side the same ammount.
The big 4 to lose heaps of cash.
Not sure who would qualify in this league, the top 10 sides, maybe ireland and afghanistan and kenya,or maybe just the 10.

Elitists...

Once this was mooted there was never any turning back. The special interests of the cricketing world Don't and have never understood the concept of sportsmanship. This is the beginning of the end for this old relic of a sport. RIP.

Hyperbole IMO. Cricket doesn't need to expand to stay alive; there's no reason to stay it can't continue to survive with the amount of strong nations it currently has. It'd obviously be nice to have more competitive teams and we're seeing improvements in associate standards so I definitely agree it's a terrible decision from the ICC, but I don't think holding back Ireland, Scotland, Afghanistan etc is actually going to make the stronger nations stop playing cricket - it'll just stagnate rather than regress.

Also, yeah, what Teja said.

How does this coexist with traditional contests like the Ashes?

Was never a fan of the idea of a test championship ITFP. Dont see the need for it TBH.

Its all a knee-jerk reaction to the rise & threat of T20 cricket to test cricket, which if the ICC was a proper governing body they would had control of. Thus the talk & need to create such a test championship wouldn't be needed.

Wait, that's something that hasn't been repeated a million times already. Needs further explaining, IMO.

Awesome stuff.

Would have liked to have seen 12 teams at the world cup instead of 10.
This.

Overall not a bad restructuring. Looking forward to the Test play offs. Something other then Ashes to finally look forward to.

As far as ODI WC is concerned....don't see a point really to reduce it down to 10 teams...if the CT still exists then its just a waste tbh. Should have at least 12 teams so that 2 associates teams can fight for a spot.

The ICC should be revamped to a "independent body" with the 10 other cricket boards being under it.

The President & CEO in the ICC are just names - they have no power. As it stands ATM, as I Chappell correctly put it in this article earlier this year:

Ian Chappell: Use the UDRS or lose it | Opinion | Cricinfo Magazine | Cricinfo.com

quote said:
The problem is, the heads of the boards meet as the ICC and agree on a direction for the game, and then promptly head off and act in the best interest of the individual board they represent. It's as if they gather in the huddle as a tight-knit group before the match and then instead of dispersing to perform as a cricket team, they play a game of tug-of-war
