He actually opened a few times a well.
Just moving everyone up one would have made much more sense, but apparently Root and Stokes have inflexible batting positions so they've got what they've got.

Brook was genuinely pretty crap in his early Yorkshire career in general iirc

Another thing those two have in common is that Ballance was never a #3 either but got crowbarred into the spot for England because nobody else wanted it. Both better coming in later in the order.
Brook obviously seems to have a much higher ceiling than Ballance, so hopefully they figure things out for him.

I don’t know bout his technique but his got that sort of toughness I like in a player.
I think this series will have done him the world of good.
As the series has gone on, he's general played in a more orthodox style - the baseball shots and wild slogging have largely disappeared.
He's a seriously talented player who will be the backbone of our batting for the next decade or so.

I think it was just the 2nd test where he was awful?
A few cheapish dismissals elsewhere but played to the situation more often than not, as others have said a solid first Ashes series.
Can't wait to see him in India, obviously Ashwin could destroy him but also could be the difference maker if we get some low scoring shoot outs. Box office cricketer IMO.
