It was perfect weather here today. Was a bit iffy earlier in the week though.
Yeah but all cricket abandoned last week

Forecast fine for next few days followed by torrential rain from Thursday or so

This tournament is being played a month too early as it’s hardly unusual

Isn’t the simplest explanation for the scheduling that they didn’t want a clash with the FIFA World Cup?

They should move the Melbourne games to Perth. We have good weather ahead, apart from next Friday. Bounce is conducive to entertaining cricket.

Marvel is owned by the AFL and they have their own sponsors

Having it as a backup would entail compensation to the AFL/sponsors for providing clean advertising space on top of ground rental

It’s also being used for other events atm

Organisation is an utter disgrace. La Nina has been known for nearly a year now. And they failed to provide adequate contingency. That's the last time I'm following a T20 World cup what a shambles. Will only follow test cricket.

It also necessitates preparing two grounds, pitches, ground hirage, staffing facilities etc only to use one. That's an incredible cost that just can't be met on the chance a game is fully rained out. It's just not viable.

I've been to Marvel a few times, great for footy but not that great for cricket, especially during the day when the sun is shining but bugger all of it gets into the stadium itself.

I think we can count ourselves all lucky the India Pakistan game managed to happen.
