Greatest World Cup opening game

Haven't had a good look through historic first-game scorecards, but off the top of my head, Aust vs. NZ 1992, when the underdogs came through with the upset. Patel famously opening the bowling.

SA vs. WI in 2003 was good, not sure if it was an opening game though. Lara special.

EDIT : _Ed_ got there first.

India Bangladesh 2011. For a while I thought Bangas were gonna do the impossible. They opened their innings in a blaze of boundaries

How fun was Nannes. World class skier in his youth and then casually switched to playing international cricket for two countries.

Wonder how rapid he would have been had he played cricket in his 20s. Bloke bowled genuine wheels.

That SA/Windies 2003 match was a ripper, remember watching at the time. Such a match of ebbs and flows, West Indies inching along the first half of their innings and then absolutely exploding in the closing overs. South Africa bogged down for so long but almost getting there through Klusener, and there being only a metre or two in it as to whether a ball in the final over was going for six or was caught.

On a slightly different note, the very first world cup match ever turned out to be arguably the most anti climactic match of all time. The infamous 36* from Gavaskar.
