England test tour of Pakistan December 2022

Whatever it takes!!!
I do think Pakistan were stuck between a rock and a hard place when it came to picking an attack for this series. Abbas could easily have been smashed on these decks if he's not in good nick, Afridi was injured and then they tried to pick a performing domestic seamer in Mohammed Ali who couldn't hack it. I'm not sure there was a simple answer to trying to pick two sensible seamers for the series. I do think Naseem Shah was hard done to for failing on a deck that most bowlers in history would have failed on.

The rest of the side though, yeah, they shot themselves in the foot. There was no reason to play Zahid Mahmood ahead of Abrar which was fairly mercilessly discussed in thread. And it doesn't make sense to pick Salman, Nawaz (3) and Faheem all in the same team either. I thought of those Salman did quite well but he barely bowled, so he should have been batting above the keeper and showing his worth as a bat. If you're not confident he can do that, can him and play a proper batsman, of which there are several waiting in the wings.

At least Saud Shakeel is a good find, as is Abdullah Shafiq from this season in general. Pakistan have a working batting order, a good legspinner and an array of capable second spinners. So as soon as they get 2/3 pace bowlers with a bit of form and confidence (i.e. selectors don't piss about with them) they'll do alright.

Naseem was injured, not dropped.

Obviously England's success isn't all down to luck.

I don't think England are the best white ball side in the world and the reason is there bowling has never been great.
You can talk about facts blahblah but cricket is contentious. This is the thing that annoys me most about England supporters. They act like results are the only thing that matters in cricket now after previously having very few results to write home about this century apart from their test win in Australia.

All big 3 teams annoy me a bit tbh but at least Australia and India have the talent and the history to back it up.

I think New Zealand was a better team in the 2019 world cup and should have won it, why? their bowling was better and their batting was as good as England's under pressure. It is a fact with whatever hyperboles used above that England had a LOT of luck in 2019.
It is also a FACT that England didn't even win the world cup itself on runs by any legitimate measure that is relevant to cricket. At least in soccer you have to score more pentalties than the other side.

Whilst England was a better team than Pakistan in the wt20, if Pakistan had batted sensibly from 119-4 for the last 4 overs, they would have won the world cup even with a score of about 150-155. Why? Because bowling strong teams generally beat batting-strong teams in games and big tournaments. This is according to WinViz things I've read at least. And it did again take luck for England to win. A lot of luck.

This is the irksome thing about England. They have ONE extraordinary Test result, this series. Most teams don't get the hype that England do after beating a sad-looking NZ at home and a pathetic batting South Africa side. Most sides are expected to win at home. What hype did NZ get after beating England in England in 2021, none that I can remember.
Everyone acts like England beat India this year but umm they didn't they won 1 game and drew a series.

I get that England fans want to have these big historic moments to hold onto. And they have a few of them now. But you already get enough hype in the bloody media, you don't need every cricket fan alive to go along do you.
Slow Deck dropping some uncomfortable truth bombs here for our dentally challenged brethren.

'Blowing out another person's candle does not make yours burn brighter' seems a worthy saying to insert in the thread at this time.

I always liked "If you're looking for sympathy, check the dictionary between sh*t and syphilis" as a reply to that saying tbh.

I don't get that.

England are winning, their fans are happy, maybe they wouldn't beat the 80s era Windies (although they probably would because those guys are around 70 years old) but who ****ing cares? Let them rejoice.

No, it's important to downplay, minimize, mock and undermine any slight success England has. At anything. Fortunately it doesn't happen very often so you only have to do it very occasionally.
Fair play.......so long as you understand you're going to look very foolish next year and some of these posts are coming back to bite you hard.

I really don't know why you think that would bother me. I've never been troubled by making predictions which don't come to pass. I'll always be out there putting in the big performances - doing the Placido Domingo.

It's better than sitting on the fence pretending you're being measured in your prognostications when really you're just trying to hedge your bets. There's no future there.

Burgey’s withering takedown of the implications of socialised dental care demonstrate his utmost commitment to champagne socialism. Never fear though, he bought Anthony Albanese MP a tea towel.
Haven't you got a parrot to rodger or something?

Everyone knows it's not socalised dental care that's the problem. It's lack of fluoride in the water.

the idea that england haven't been the best white ball side in the past seven years is quite the contrary, hot take.
W/L ratio since 22 Dec 2015 - today

ODIs - England are 1st
Eng 2.25
India 2.0
NZ 1.875

SA 5th behind Namibia; Bang 8th; Aus 9th

T20is Eng are only 26th!!!
The top 3 are Isle of Man, Tanzania, and Canada
The 3 highest ranked established sides are India, Pakistan, and NZ

Very little between the big 3 of white ball cricket - NZ, England, and India. SA, Aus, and Pak battling for 4th.

Funny that - as growing up in the UK, I had access to fluoridated water but couldn't get a bloody appointment at the dentist as my family could only afford the socialised dental care, but any appointment we made would get bumped for those who could pay privately.

And yeah, insulting the person that does volunteer conservation work. Once again, champagne socialism at it's finest.

Mate, you haven't the first idea what I or other people on here do with their time, not everyone advertises, you know? But you felt happy enough to insert yourself into the discussion and have a crack.

Yeah. I did have a crack. I've seen plenty of times over the years your enjoyment of the hilarity of poor dental care in the UK. Not so funny when your old man's teeth disintegrate when he's eating a few grapes or one of them splits in half when he's having his Sunday lunch.
