DoG's Test Innings and Bowling Performances. Updates thread.

Makes me feel good when people are instantly calling for my updated ratings following such an innings!

Just below VVS Laxman. The Laxman knock came against a higher rated opposition and in a bleaker match situation (at the beginning of the team's innings). It is however the best-ever innings away from home, and the highest ranked innings in a winning chase.

True, but he did bowl in the innings. Possibly even bowled to Perera on day 3. Either way I'm not sure exactly how it works
I actually base it only on the opposition's team rating.

I tried in the past to incorporate bowler's ratings/averages, etc. but it all became too complex with too many outliers.

Bloody Bradman was hax. 4 innings in the top 32 is ridiculous given he only played 50 tests.

There have been 93,984 innings in test cricket history across 2347 matches.

There have only been 13 innings rated above 20.00.

Therefore an innings of such magnitude as Perera's occurs once every 181 tests, and once every 7230 innings. Expect to see another one in about 4 years (average of 45 tests a year played in the current era).

the odds seem to be drastically higher if you're a Sri Lankan. when can we expect the next Sri Lankan innings of 20.00 and higher

I think this gives an advantage to players from the lower ranked nations to get into the top 100/20/10 easier. Probably the reason why there are many Srilankans there. But fair enough since we cannot take that factor out of calculation.

Yeah of the 13 innings rated above 20.00, there are 4 by different Sri Lankans in the 2010s (and a 5th that missed out by 0.27)

Seems like there might be something to it.

Then how did Bradman get 4 innings in the top 32? England never won a series vs Australia for the majority of his career.

Sri Lanka being so inconsistent as a team could be the reason. Say De Silva didn't get out and him and Perera saw them home together, neither innings would rank too highly.

SL have produced a lot of back to the wall efforts recently, with one guy standing up while everyone else failed. Not many solid partnerships. The exception being those 2 massive ones, but they weren't this decade

Yeah, England only won two of Bradman's first three Ashes series.

All seven of Don Bradman's top 100 innings were pre WWII. In Ashes Tests from Bradman's first series until WWII, Australia's win/loss record was an imperious won 10, lost 13.
